From smart homes to kitchen storage galore, a new study reveals the most popular home-improvement trends of 2021, with the top trend racking up over 1.4 billion views on TikTok!
The home-improvement experts at PlumbNation have crunched the numbers to find what’s trending on TikTok and Instagram. The number of Insta posts and TikTok views were then combined to reveal 2021’s top home-improvement trends.
Social media’s top home-improvement trend
The top home-improvement trend of 2021 is #smarthome, which racked up 1.4 billion posts across Instagram and TikTok. Not only is the nation into smart lighting and music that can be controlled with a swipe of a phone, homeowners are also into video doorbells that sync with a mobile. Plus, installing items such as smart boilers and meters can save energy and keep those bills down.

Fire pits sell out
Fire pits — clocking in at number two in the home-improvements chart with over 240 million social shares — have also become increasingly popular with many choosing to entertain at home in the garden rather than travel to a pub. Covid-19 lockdowns boosted their popular so much that fire pits sold out at many retailers.

The home bar is reborn
Another lockdown home-improvement trend was the home bar — the third most popular trend of 2021. With more than 150 million posts across the two social platforms, it’s clear that many people are making this a reality in their homes.
