Cosy up for the festive season with your own outdoor cinema. We spoke to Wayfair’s Resident Style Advisor, Nadia McCowan Hill, on how to transform your garden into a movie theatre for the Christmas period.

Choose a covering

Gazebos and outdoor coverings aren’t just for summer. Parties might be off the cards, but you can make movie nights with the family extra special this year by setting up a covering in your garden. Protect your loved ones from the elements with a gazebo that has fully covered sides, if you know you’d love one all year round then it may be an idea to invest in a permanent one which can withstand more extreme weather conditions.

Comfort is key

You want you and your guests to be as comfortable as possible whilst sitting outdoors in wintertime. Layer several outdoor rugs on the ground as they are immune to the elements and can be reused come summertime for picnics. Invest in some giant floor pillows, faux furs, pouffes and bean bags so everyone can get comfy.

Fire pit gathering

Invest in an outdoor heater or propane fire pit to keep everyone feeling super toasty this Christmas. Remember to keep this distanced from flammable items and ensure that the gazebo is open at the sides or back and fully ventilated at all times.

Light it up

Twinkly lights are perfect for any Christmas-inspired space. For a look that’s easy to recreate at home and on a budget, decorate the gazebo with string lights to create your own version of a starry sky. Opt for net lights , which are ideal to act as a sparkly backdrop, or hang a LED wreath or two to make your outdoor cinema feel super festive.

Festive cheers

Have yourself a merry little Christmas with a bar cart fully stocked with treats. Hot drinks such as mulled wine, hot cider or a crowd-pleasing hot chocolate topped with a generous helping of whipped cream and a handful of marshmallows will keep your belly warm all night. Serve in elegant stainless-steel mugs for some extra festive sparkle.
