Show some extra love to your outdoor space this week in honour of National Gardening Week. Whatever the weather is like where you are you can still get into the garden and make the most out of it. Here are a few ideas on how to celebrate…

Give your lawn some TLC

Now spring has arrived, it’s important to put the work into your lawn now to have it looking in tip top condition by the time summer rolls around. Make sure to deweed and add a sprinkle of fertiliser to give your lawn that extra push that it needs.

Order some seeds online

National Gardening Week is a great excuse to purchase those seeds that you’ve been meaning to buy in time for summer. Whether it’s vegetable seeds to grow your own produce or some flower seeds to jazz up your garden borders, choose seeds that will successfully grow in the conditions of your garden.

Have a barbecue

During lockdown, inviting friends and family over isn’t an option, however you and your household can enjoy an initimate barbecue in your garden. Eating al fresco is definitely one of the many pleasures of having outdoor space, so pay homage to that this week.

Plant some herbs

Even if you have minimal outdoor space, create a window box where you can plant various herbs to make your own herb garden. All you need is some pots, the correct soil and you’re good to go! You’ll be cooking with your own homegrown herbs in no time.

Sit and enjoy the view

There’s no better way of celebrating National Gardening Week than sitting in your garden taking in the views. Invest in good quality garden furniture to encourage you to sit in your outdoor space when the weather permits. Your garden doesn’t have to be up to Chelsea Flower Show standards, but if it puts a smile on your face, that’s all that matters.

Enjoy your own produce

Whether you’ve been growing veggies in a greenhouse or herbs in a window box, it could be time to enjoy your own produce that you’ve been nurturing. Or, if you’re yet to kick-start production, take this time to figure out what you want to grow and how best to do it in your outdoor space.

Take a virtual garden tour

If you don’t have your own garden or simply want to enjoy a tour of an amazing outdoor space then National Trust are offering virtual tours of a lot of its special sites from the comfort of your own home. Not only is this a fun activity to do during lockdown but it might give you some inspiration for your next garden project.
