7 hottest bedroom trends for 2026
Our bedrooms as children and younger people are a place to express ourselves.
In our parents’ and carers’ homes they’re a space for our own creativity in a house with others’ tastes.
But, when we get to adulthood and have our own homes, they can often be neglected and become dumping grounds for laundry and other items we don’t know what to do with – so consider reclaiming your bedroom space and prioritising it in 2026.
Unlike other spaces, bedrooms are quite easy to refresh, too.
Bedrooms can be revitalised with some fresh accessories, or soft furnishings, and even a lick of paint if you really want to mix it up.
Whereas other rooms often require much more DIY to feel revitalised, meaning a bedroom is a good ‘easier’ project for this year.
We spoke to the experts to get the lowdown on the biggest bedroom trends for 2026…
1. Earthy Colour Palettes
In our bedrooms, we want to create a calm, sleep-promoting atmosphere, so while bolder colours are trending in other parts of our homes, in our bedrooms we’re keeping those muted, earthy tones.
Melissa Denham, interior design expert at Hammonds Furniture adds: “In 2026, expect to see a strong focus on earthy hues such as warm terracotta, soft moss green, clay tones, and muted browns.
“These colours help promote emotional wellbeing and make rooms feel nurturing and soothing.
“Earthy colours are incredibly versatile, so they can work in a variety of spaces, including modern living rooms, classic dining rooms, or even bedrooms designed with tranquillity in mind.
“When layered, they create depth and harmony, allowing textures and furniture to become the focal point.
“These shades also reinforce the connection to nature, supporting mindfulness and wellbeing.”
“Pairing earthy colour palettes with natural materials like stone, wood, and linen ensures a home feels balanced and grounded.”
Steve Larkin, an interiors expert from Lark & Larks agrees: “Earthy colour palettes are going to be a large trend for decorating bedrooms as they help to create a calm and restorative atmosphere.
“Earthy tones mimic nature, which makes a bedroom feel peaceful and grounded, therefore better for sleep.
“Compared to other trends, earthy colours work with many other styles and will stand the test of time.”

2. Personalised spaces
Our bedrooms are a place for us, somewhere we can put our own stamp on things.
As previously mentioned, the rest of our homes often end up a fusion of chaos and practicality, but our bedrooms are somewhere we only need to cater to our taste.
If you want to showcase a hobby, experiment with a colour or quirky wallpaper design, your bedroom is the place to do it.
Gloria Sanchez from Tailored Living Interiors explains: “Adding texture to your interiors is a great way to personalise your bedroom space so look out for plush area rugs, textured wallpaper, and soft furnishings such as cushions and throws for added indulgence!
“As most bedrooms offer at least one wall to decorate, there is plenty of opportunities to personalise your bedroom so why not incorporate textured wallpaper to really add depth and comfort.
“Don’t be afraid to mix and match textures either, as long as the colours complement each other, you’ll find a very simple and effective way to create a peaceful and calming environment that still oozes luxury with a custom finish.”

3. Statement headboards
Another continuing trend into this year for bedrooms is statement headboards.
They’re a chance to get creative in a bedroom space, and inject personality into your bedroom (linking with another of this year’s bedroom trends).
Jonathan Warren, bed expert and director at Time4Sleep, shares his insights on how to style one at home.
“Styling a statement headboard may feel like a daunting task, but there are some easy questions to ask yourself to help you figure out what is right for your bedroom.
“The shape of a headboard is down to personal preference and dependent on the design you want, however a smaller headboard can get lost in a large room with high ceilings.
“For a bolder look, choose a striking pattern that stands out against the existing décor and colours in your room.
“Embrace an eclectic mix of patterns and textures for a more maximalist approach.”

Tiled headboards
Another option for a creative statement headboard is doing something extra special. One unique concept is a tiled headboard, which combines texture, colour and individuality to make a stunning design for your bedroom space.
Grazzie Wilson, Head of Creative at Ca’ Pietra, shares more on tiled headboards: “It feels unexpected, which makes it instantly stylish, but it’ is also incredibly practical, especially if you are someone who likes to prop themselves up in bed with a cup of coffee.
“There’s no upholstery to worry about staining, and with the right tile choice, it can be incredibly soothing or sculptural, depending on the mood you want to create.
“When it comes to choosing tiles for a headboard, it’s all about tone and texture. Try soft greens, blush pinks, off-whites and earthy neutrals for a calming feel.
“You could even go bold with a geometric pattern or contrasting grout but keep the rest of the scheme pared back to let it shine.
“When it comes to tiling your headboard, it can be a DIY job, within reason!
“If you are tiling directly onto the wall and keeping the shape fairly simple, it is a manageable weekend project for a confident DIY-er.
“Alternatively, tiling onto a piece of MDF or plyboard first and then wall-mounting it can give the same effect with less pressure and commitment.”

4. Layered lighting
The importance of lighting in a bedroom can’t be underestimated, and in 2026 layering lighting is the trending style.
If you’re looking to change the impact of your space without changing up the décor, then switching up the lighting can bring a new lease of life into your bedroom.
Magdalena Gierasinkska, head of product and displays at Barker & Stonehouse comments: “Fashioning the correct lighting scheme is essential for creating a relaxing atmosphere, and also offers us the opportunity to make a style statement through our choice of table, floor or ceiling light.
“Ideal for highlighting specific areas of the room or simply filling a space with a natural and welcoming ambience, mix and match a variety of lighting solutions to create a beautiful, layered effect.”
The concept of using multiple, more gentle lights rather than relying on a single main light in the bedroom is a common one, and layering soft bedside wall lights, pendants and subtle accent lighting to create atmosphere is preferred.
Emily Butterill, Founder and Creative Director of Glow Lighting: explains: “Using handblown glass adds warmth and softness, while choosing dimmable light bulbs gives you the option of brighter light when you need it, and a calm, cocooning glow when you don’t.
“Thoughtfully layered lighting makes the bedroom far more adaptable, practical, flexible and beautifully considered.”

5. Organic modern style
Another bedroom trend for 2026 is organic modern style, which is essentially using high quality materials to create a luxurious feel in the home.
This doesn’t need to result in a huge expense, metallic accents like gold, bronze and silver can add to the effect and bring glamour to your bedroom and introduced through mirrors, bases, and lighting.
Gloria Sanchez of Tailored Living Interiors explains: “Organic modern style encapsulates the growing trend for quiet luxury in the home.
“A neutral colour palette that blends variations of cream, white, brown, and grey continue to elevate the home and present an overall aesthetic which is rich, comforting, and elegant.
“Resulting in a timeless living environment that oozes texture, tone, and stylistic beauty.”

6. Multifunctional furniture
Interior design trends this year are focusing on creating a relaxing and tranquil environment; relieving stress and improving wellbeing, especially within bedrooms.
Keeping the space clutter-free and organised is important for a calming space, and multifunctional furniture can encourage that.
Ethan Fox from Furniture World adds: “Multifunctional furniture is ideal for providing a concealed storage space for storing extra bedding, clothing or miscellaneous items.
“It also reduces the need for extra furniture pieces, to help your bedroom appear less cluttered. Ottoman beds are particularly effective at providing an abundance of easy to reach storage in your bedroom.”
It isn’t just in beds that the multifunctional furniture concept can work in bedrooms though, there are other ways to embrace the trend.
Becca Stern, creative director and co-founder of Mustard Made explains: “A practical bedside table that will keep both your space and mind clutter-free is essential.
“The bedside is one of the first and last things you see, so keeping the space organised is crucial.
“Opting for cupboard storage means you can shut away bedside essentials, phones and other devices to prevent disrupted sleep.”

7. Sustainable design choices
Sustainability is now at the forefront of interior design, as we become more conscious of ethical practices when it comes to our décor.
It’s an improvement on the quality and our mindset to make design decisions long term to ensure they’re sustainable.
Gloria Sanchez of Tailored Living Interiors adds: “By investing in high quality, timeless pieces, you’ll ensure your design choices remain relevant and able to endure changing trends for years to come.
“This approach helps create a more sustainable living environment and saves you time and money in the long run, as you won’t need to keep updating and refreshing the décor of your home.”
It’s a case of being mindful in your decorating decisions and investing in better quality furniture and furnishings to ensure they last.
