6 bathroom trends in 2026
Bathrooms are one of, if not the most, used rooms in the house.
They are a high traffic area and as such, need to be regularly cleaned and maintained, however when it comes to refurbishing, they’re an expensive undertaking.
But, it’s most common for bathrooms to be done a maximum of every five to seven years (and usually even longer), so it’s important to really consider what you want your new bathroom to look like over the long term.
Before you take the plunge, make sure you get that balance between fleeting trends and longevity…
1. Texture and bold colours
The idea of using multiple textures and brighter colours in a bathroom space has been growing in popularity in recent years and 2026 is set to be an explosion of the trend.
Dave Boddy, product manager at Abode explains the lure of textures: “As texture continues to change how we view the bathroom in terms of sight and touch, it’s no surprise that the latest products are presenting more tactile qualities to bring the surface of your tap and basin to the fore!
“From fluted design elements such as grooved wall panelling and straight-knurled lever handles across the brassware to natural materials in accents of metal and stone, these types of textures are being used to create bathrooms which are rich in detail, deeply personal, and in tune with nature.
“Texture is being applied across all elements of the bathroom as a way to personify the space, and fluted design elements are considered the top choice in 2026 for adding depth, and providing a direct contrast against smooth surface areas like the basin and bath, and wall and floor tiles.”

Bold colours and patterns
Where in the past people have get bathrooms stripped back and natural, with more neutral, muted tones – now they’re a chance to make a statement.
Whether you choose to do that with quirky textures or through a bold colour or pattern, there are plenty of ways to personalise your bathroom space.
One trending way to do this is by using striped tiles in the bathroom.
Wayne Spriggs, CEO of the luxury bathroom specialists Lusso explains the trend: “Stripes have become a key pattern in interior design recently.
“In 2026, we will see the use of stripes and hard lines expand, with striped tile arrangements being a popular and effective choice to embrace the aesthetic in the bathroom.
“A fresh and innovative approach to colourful tile design is the use of two-tone metro tiles in a vertical arrangement rather than a horizontal one. This can be done with muted or pastel shades for a softer, more relaxing look, such as pairing beige and white tiles.
“Alternatively, you can choose deep, warm tones or bright colours, such as burgundy and pink, or bright green and white, for a bolder, more impactful statement.
“The great thing about the introduction of a striped tile placement is that you can decide how subtle or dramatic you want your design to be, whether you opt for a feature wall behind a bath or shower, the bathroom floor, or covering all walls.
“This flexibility allows you to truly make the space your own.”

2. A wellbeing retreat
As already mentioned, bathrooms are one of our most used (if not the most) rooms in the house.
But it’s now commonplace to have them not just as a bathroom space, but also as somewhere to improve your wellbeing and relax and unwind – almost like a home spa.
At a time where improving our wellbeing is becoming more important, converting our bathrooms into a relaxing sanctuary is one way to help boost it.
Richard Eaton, Design Manager at Tissino shares: “Forever luxurious and often seen as unachievable, it’s actually a trend that can be adopted reasonably easily with a few additions to your existing bathroom.
“One of the key elements is a statement freestanding bath, but if that’s not your style then opt for a contemporary design that is sleek, and if space is in an issue too then check out a corner bath – a curvy modern feel will invoke a sanctuary feel instantly.”
Isabel Fernandez, Director at Quorn Stone adds: “The sanctuary bathroom trend is all about creating a space that supports emotional wellbeing.
“By choosing calming tones and layered finishes, people can turn their bathrooms into spa-like environments that encourage relaxation and disconnection.”

Plant life
It’s not just in the decor that a spa style bathroom is in though, additions like plant life can also have a big impact on the positive wellbeing of your space.
Jo Lambell, founder of Beards & Daisies comments: “People want their bathrooms to be somewhere they can properly relax, and greenery plays a key role in creating that softer, more calming atmosphere.
“Plants help balance out hard surfaces like tiles, stone and glass, adding warmth, texture and a sense of life, which is why humidity-loving plants such as Ferns, Peace lilies and Pothos work so beautifully in these spaces.”

3. Flow and functionality
The key to a stylish bathroom in 2026 is to have both flow and functionality – of course a bathroom as a spa or wellbeing retreat is a stunning concept, but the space still needs to function as a bathroom.
Keeping a bathroom layout simple will help to support the users comfort and create a tranquil atmosphere for the space.
Matt Phillips, head of UK operations at Rotpunkt explains: “The goal is to ensure moving throughout your bathroom feels as natural as possible, and so placement is key to achieving a user-friendly furniture arrangement.
“In 2026, minimalist wall-hung bathroom furniture up to two vessel-style basins or a fully integrated washbasin are being used to blend seamlessly with the furniture and create a sense of space.
“Alongside frameless shower enclosures, and contemporary fixtures and fittings in tactile finishes to increase durability, heighten comfort levels, and boost overall efficiency in the bathroom.”
Summarised, a well fitted, functional bathroom is an effective one. A minimalist, functional space will do wonders for your wellbeing and ensure your bathroom is effective.

4. Art deco
Another resurging trend in 2026 is that of art deco, particularly in the bathroom space.
Pinterest is predicting that neo deco will be an emerging trend this year, adding to the popularity of bold patterns – creating striking visuals that command attention.
But you may not have had the idea to use the trend in your bathroom.
Celine Da Silva is a firm believer in the art deco resurgence, she states: “Art Deco is characterised by its luxurious materials.
“Think polished metals, bold marble with sharp veining, and glossy metal finishes.
“When you bring these together, you get a sophisticated feel that elevates any room.
“Opulent touches such as glass, mirrored surfaces, and velvet chairs also help to keep the vibe sleek and modern.
“The real beauty of this trend is in its ability to make spaces feel glamorous without being overly ornate.
“The sharp lines and clean angles associated with the Art Deco style can be combined with rich, luxurious textures for an effect that’s both bold and refined.”

5. Smart technology
Smart tech in the bathroom isn’t a new concept, but this year rather than your more obvious technology, it’s the understated elements that are proving most popular and long-lasting.
Rather than the novelty of using technology in the bathroom space, it’s now focussing on what tech can boost our comfort in the bathroom.
Soma Pillay, specialist at Bathroom City explains: “Tech in the bathroom is becoming less about novelty and more about effortless comfort.
“Underfloor heating and sensor lighting are being seamlessly integrated into designs.
“These innovations don’t shout for attention, and instead quietly enhance the daily routine.
“Some may even take it further with technology and design a wellness-centred space with infrared saunas for the ultimate at-home spa experience.” .
Michael Bennett, Head of Commercialisation at Aqualisa agrees: “We’re seeing a real shift in expectations.
“Homeowners now want bathrooms that feel intuitive and personalised, while also supporting more efficient living.
“Smart showers are a perfect example of this evolution.
“By giving users precise control over temperature, flow and duration, they not only enhance the daily shower experience but also help reduce unnecessary water and energy use.

6. Sustainability
Just as with smart tech, and many other 2026 trends – the lean towards a more sustainable bathroom has been gaining momentum.
There are plenty of ways to make small changes to make your bathroom space more eco-friendly.
Sometimes the smallest swaps can make the most difference, as Massimo Buster Minale, Founder and Creative Director of Buster + Punch suggests.
“Upgrading bathroom lighting to energy-efficient, design-led, LED bulbs is a highly effective way to reduce energy consumption.
“These bulbs have a significantly longer lifespan, that not only lowers your carbon footprint and reduces the need for frequent replacement, but also minimises waste, posing less harm to the environment.
“Highly recyclable and free from toxic materials, LED lighting offers a sustainable and safer lighting solution.”
Kirsty Barton, Brand Storytelling Manager at Alternative Flooring adds: “Introducing sustainable materials to the bathroom is a great way to reduce environmental impact whilst updating your space.
“The recycled PET fibre, which can be designed to look like sisal, is made out of 100% recycled consumer plastics.
:It’s an innovative, soft yet durable material that can be used to make bathroom rugs, runners or fully fitted carpet.
“Ideal for those who love the look of beautiful, natural textures but are in need of something that’s water resistant and eco-friendly.
“It’ll also add a soft touch underfoot; helping to further ground the space and enhance that zen feeling.”
