What were Yotam Ottolenghi’s reasons for partnering with designer Ivo Bisignano?

Chef Ottolenghi describes Bisignano not only as a good friend, but also a ‘soulmate for the creative process in all Ottolenghi graphics.’ He went on to say: ‘His art, in whatever medium, is honest, expressive, bold, joyful and colourful. Attributes we strive to achieve in our food.’
What should we expect from the collection?

Two motifs dominate the design: an ‘O’-shaped brushstroke for ‘Ottolenghi’, as well as abstract vegetable shapes including charred peppers and grilled artichokes.

And the reason for this? ‘I have an obsession for the O,’ says Ivo Bisignano, formerly the art director for Vogue Italia. ‘The O shape of a face, the O of a circle, a dot, a double dot and of course: the O of Ottolenghi. The continuum of the O shape is something I find very intriguing.’
‘I have drawn thousands of vegetables in this process trying to achieve the effect of stamping actual vegetables on a plate’, Bisignano says.

The ceramic tableware includes eight different sized plates, with colorways ranging from cobalt and aqua blue to mustard yellow, marshmallow pink, neutral cream, squid ink black and navy, sometimes peppered with accents of gold. ‘The plates are like different spices,’ says Bisignano. ‘It is the combination and proportion of the different components that will define the flavour.’
How to style the collection

And with the world slowly returning to normal with alfresco dining, coming together with friends and family, sharing food and exchanging stories has never looked so stylish.

When commenting on the aesthetics and narrative around the range, Ottolenghi said: ‘It is a story of the tension between the earthy and the sophisticated, between passion and refinement, tradition and novelty. ‘This collection celebrates the sharing of lovingly-made food around a beautifully-laid table.’

Despite having a bakery in London’s swanky Notting Hill, you won’t feel priced out of purchasing pieces from the collection. We’ve spotted cups and dishes for under £10! However, if can splurge, the white artichoke serving plate is a piece of art in itself.
When can we buy the range and where?
