5 easy weekend projects to give your home a boost
January 17, 2019
Refresh your rooms in just one weekend with these simple updates
Sometimes all it takes is a creative idea, a few spare hours and some elbow grease to completely transform the feel of a room. We’ve got five ideas ready and waiting, so clear your weekend schedule and get started.
Makeover grotty tiles with a grout pen

White tiles will always be in fashion, but only if they are looking their best – gungy, greying grout is not part of the look. Enter: the coloured grout pen. Simply wash and dry the area, then colour over the offending grout with a bright new hue.
Paint a geometric feature wall

Perfect for children’s bedrooms or play areas, a mountain peak landscape has far-reaching appeal and – thankfully – is incredibly simple to do. Mask your design with FrogTape, which has paint-blocking properties to ensure a crisp and even line. Paint your design and, while the paint is still wet, carefully peel off the tape.

Channel your inner artist and do something completely bespoke with furniture that’s seen better days. Little dots are a great way to start, as they can easily be built up into floral shapes or repeating patterns, or you could try a stencil for a more controlled approach. And if in doubt, remember that paint is incredibly forgiving – if you don’t like it, then simply paint over the design and start afresh.
Hang baskets as chic storage

A feature wall and handy extra storage combined, treat yourself to a pair of woven baskets and hang them from statement hooks. Ideal for hallways, bathrooms and living rooms (excellent toy tidies!), be sure to make the fixings secure if you plan to store anything heavy.
Frame wallpaper with wooden beading

Perfect for indecisive decorators, pick a range of complementary wallpaper prints – a great tip is to choose them from the same designer or collection. Cut squares from each and frame them onto your wall with wooden beading, which is available at any hardware store.
