Peaky Blinders interiors: 10 ways to get the Tommy Shelby look at home
Peaky Blinders is back!
While we have to admit we’re mostly looking forward to the return of the ruthless yet enigmatic Tommy Shelby (IYKYK), when the film version of the hit series drops on Netflix on March 20 we’ll also be checking out the show’s swoon-worthy interiors.
From smoke-filled bars drenched in dark wood panelling, to the opulent gold-gilt grandeur of The Eden club, the world of Peaky Blinders delivers a masterclass in moody, masculine design.
Think gentleman’s club elegance with an industrial edge, rich, cocooning colour palettes, glints of stained glass and furniture that feels as stoic as the Shelbys themselves.
“Peaky Blinders interiors evoke the atmosphere of an early 20th-century gentleman’s club, richly layered, masculine, and unapologetically moody,” explains Kunal Trehan, interior designer and founder of Touched Interiors.
“It’s a look that feels cinematic, intimate and quietly powerful, with deep tobacco browns, inky greens, burnished brass, aged leather, and dark timber panelling, all illuminated by low, amber lighting.”
Kunal says we’re keen to lean into the look right now as part of a wider shift away from cool minimalism and towards homes that feel cocooning, characterful and emotionally warm.
Or perhaps we all just want our homes to look as effortlessly cool as Tommy Shelby does in a three-piece suit.
“In uncertain times especially, people are drawn to interiors that feel grounding and protective; spaces that suggest heritage, permanence and a touch of drama rather than stark perfection.”
From layering texture and embracing darker tones to leaning into that lived-in feel – the Peaky Blinders aesthetic is all about creating spaces that feel intimate, atmospheric and just a little bit dangerous.
We spoke to the experts about how to bring a touch of flat-cap style into your own home.

Embrace a moody colour palette
Masculine style calls for a deep, rich colour scheme that will set the entire tone.
“Deep charcoals, oxblood, navy, forest green and warm tobacco shades instantly create that Shelby atmosphere,” explains Kunal.
“Matt finishes work best, as they absorb light rather than reflect it, giving walls a velvety, enveloping quality.”

Evoke some gentleman’s club chic
The Peaky Blinders aesthetic leans naturally towards a gentleman’s club vibe because its interiors are rooted in tradition.
To bring the look home without taking it too far, focus on atmosphere rather than imitation: a deep colour palette (see above), a cosy armchair and considered lighting will evoke the mood without it feeling like a set design.
In terms of accessories Kunal suggests layering in pieces that feel collected rather than decorated.
“Vintage trunks, decanters, chess sets, books, and framed black-and-white photography,” he suggests.
“The aim is luxury with a sense of history, not showroom perfection.”

Introduce stained glass elements
Stained glass works beautifully within this look as it softens the otherwise heavy, masculine scheme, adding colour, pattern and a sense of heritage craftsmanship.
But for a modern take, introduce it sparingly via a single panel, a cabinet insert or even stained-glass-effect lighting. It should feel like a design detail rather than a period feature.
“Stained glass panels, fluted glass doors or antique mirrors introduce period character while diffusing light in a soft, atmospheric way,” explains Kunal.
“It’s a subtle nod to Edwardian architecture that elevates the entire scheme.”
Choose leather – the richer the better
Leather is central to the Peaky Blinders world, introducing both durability and a little luxury.
Leather also tends to look better with age (much like Tommy Shelby himself).
The key is to choose one or two well-made items – a vintage-style armchair or a leather-topped desk, and let them anchor the room rather than overwhelming it.
“Leather, particularly in deep espresso or weathered brown tone, remains central to this aesthetic,” explains Julia Bilotta, creative stylist at Sofology.
“Low-profile sofas with a slightly rugged finish ground the space, while accents in rust, mustard or dark green add subtle warmth.
“Balance the heaviness with softer neutrals like stone or sand on walls and keep window treatments simple to allow natural light to cut through the darker palette.”

Bring in brass and burnished metals
Brass and gold accents add a hint of polish, elevating the scheme from purely industrial to something more refined.
The key is keeping the additions subtle, but intentional via hardware, lighting or small decorative objects.
“Polished chrome feels too contemporary,” adds Kunal.
“Instead opt for antique brass, bronze or aged gold finishes.
Desk lamps, bar accessories, handles and lighting are perfect ways to introduce this warmth.”
Go with wood but make it dark
According to Sue Jones, co-founder and creative director at OKA, dark wood is central to the Peaky Blinders look.
“Seen in richly-stained sideboards or a commanding dining table that commands the room. Layer in brown leather with heritage-inspired silhouettes from the same era, like this Crosby armchair with its polished brass studs.”
Graeme Shelley, managing director at Factory Direct Flooring, whose warehouse is just around the corner from Birmingham, the home of the Shelby family, says a Peaky Blinders-inspired interior would be nothing without a real wood floor in deep chestnut or walnut tones.
“The beauty of real wood is the natural grain, which only becomes more complex and characterful as it ages, lending itself perfectly to the Peaky Blinders spirit,” he says.
“This smoked oak herringbone floor is a perfect example, or if you prefer engineered wood to solid wood, take a look at the rich, coffee-brown tone of these planks.”

Layer your lighting
Low, ambient lighting is essential for a space that evoke’s the series/film’s intense atmosphere.
“When paired with soft pools of light, a backdrop of inky blues, deep purple and sultry burgundies, evokes a moody, immersive ambience,” explains Mara Rypacek Miller, founder of Industville.
She suggests starting with a combination of ambient and accent lighting to build intrigue then layer in low-level lighting such as wall sconces, table lamps or clusters of candles to add a mysterious, intimate glow.
“Lighting with a subtle industrial edge, such as aged metal finishes or frosted glass, can deepen the atmosphere and lend a raw, alchemical quality to the room,” she adds.
“Add task lights only where needed, ensuring they complement rather than overpower the mood.
“To highlight the darkly sophisticated nuances of this style, introduce fixtures with copper or brass finishes.
“Repeating these metallic elements throughout the room ties the design together while catching the light in a way that feels mysterious.”
Mara also suggests looking for sculptural pieces with vintage or handcrafted qualities.
“These bring a sense of the eclecticism, as if collected over time,” she explains.
”Industrial-style pendants with glass and metal details will also bring moody, masculine opulence.”
A final tip when it comes to Peaky lighting is to add dimmer switches so you can dial the brightness up or down.
“This transforms the room’s vibe instantly,” explains Mara.
“From an intimate, sophisticated hideaway to a space ready for lively gatherings.”

Find a masculine/feminine balance
The key to making the look work, according to Sue, is balance.
“Lean too far into the darker elements and the space can feel overly austere, so it’s important to temper the moodiness with softness such as botanical prints and faux flowers.
“Vintage pieces work really well here too,” she adds. “A gilt mirror, a decanter on a tray, and a pair of candlesticks will all add character and a sense of history.”
According to Interiors expert Kate Conrad, founder of Madison and Mayfair, soft furnishings are a key element in helping to balance the look.
“Velvet cushions, woven textures and heritage-inspired patterns help soften the overall scheme,” says she says.
“This helps introduce comfort and contrast to what can otherwise be a more structured, masculine style.”

Create a moody environment with scent and accessories
Kate says the Shelby aesthetic translates beautifully into home fragrance and accessories.
“Smoked glass candles, amber-toned diffusers and darker ceramic vessels add instant depth,” she says.
“While metallic accents such as brushed brass or antique finishes bring warmth and a subtle sense of luxury.”

Finish with texture and tailoring
The interplay of texture and tailoring will help pull the whole look together.
Sharp lines balanced with tactile materials, from wool and velvet to aged wood and metal.
“Think heavy drapery, wool throws, velvet cushions and tailored upholstery,” Kunal adds.
“These materials soften the darker palette and add the sense of quiet luxury that defines the Shelby aesthetic.”
Dairine Nethercott, head of design at Abraham Moon & Sons believes the Peaky Blinders look is rooted in British industrial heritage, with the refinement you’d expect from traditional tailoring.
“It’s about honest materials used in a considered way,” she says.
“We often take direct inspiration from tailoring when designing interiors, adapting classic tweeds and gun club checks to bring that same character into the home.”
