When you’re thinking about redecorating a room, don’t forget the ceiling. Painting it a bright colour, a dark colour or the same colour as the other walls can all make a statement in their own way. Here are a few examples that are inspiring us over on Instagram.

Create a beautifully tonal space like Sofie from @threeboysandapinkbath has with her bedroom. Painting the ceiling a warmer tone than the walls creates a cocooning effect – perfect for creating a cosy and warm space.

How amazing is this green room courtesy of Lily from @layered.home? Painting your ceiling the same colour as the rest of your walls makes the space feel bigger and more open as the lines of the room become less defined. Choosing a bright colour is definitely a bold move but will no doubt create a fun backdrop for your lighting, furniture and accessories.

Go over to the dark side, like Sian of That Reno Life, and paint your ceiling black! We love the idea of keeping the walls white and having a black ceiling – turning traditional decorating standards on their head.

Make a decorative feature out of your ceiling like Amy has from @no_ordinary_space. The ornate cornicing and ceiling rose adds another dimension to her dusky pink ceiling, which is painted in ‘Plaster’ by Paint and Paper Library.

It’s always a good idea to work with the natural characteristics and period features of your home when you’re planning to redecorate. We are huge fans of this living room scheme by @maxmademedoit who decided to paint a gorgeous dark teal shade up to the picture rail, whie using coral for the upper third of her walls and ceiling. It creates the illusion of higher ceilings and makes a true statement.
