Get into the festive spirit by DIYing your own decorations at the Ideal Home Show Christmas workshops. Tapping into the biophilia trend, there’s wreath making using only natural materials, the chance to make your own felt decorations, and you can join the Live Lagom workshop with IKEA making Christmas wreaths, crackers and gifts.

1. Christmas wreath making

Found of @Festive_Fancy Katy Quorn, has worked for a string of creative companies, from Selfridges to Diesel to Fred Perry and she has turned her hand to creative installations. For the Ideal Home Show Christmas wreath making workshop, she’ll guide you through the process of creating your own Christmas wreath made from natural materials.

2. LAGOM wreaths, crackers and gifts

Live LAGOM was born out of a three year collaboration between IKEA and the University of Surrey based around the Swedish art of Lagom as a philosophy for living well. What exactly is Lagom? Well, it roughly translates as ‘not too much, not too little’, reflecting the Swedish philosophy of balance and creating a sense of harmony. Aileen McCreadie will be bringing the concept to the Ideal Home Show Christmas in her hour-long workshop making Christmas wreaths, crackers and gifts.

3. Felt Christmas decorations

Set up by Diana and Sam in 2017, M.Y.O (Make Your Own) is ‘a creative space for grown-ups’, with a mission to help adults tap into their creative side with everything from pottery to life drawing and embroidery. At their special Ideal Home Show Christmas workshop, they’ll be helping you make your own felt Christmas decorations. By the end of this craft class, you’ll go home with fabulous felt decorations that will look fabulous on the tree, your festive tablescape or even given away as handmade gifts.

4. Ceramic Bauble Brush Lettering

Give your Christmas tree a personal feel this year by decorating your own ceramic baubles. Lead by Hobbycraft this workshop is a wonderful introduction to basic brush lettering and illustration. You’ll be able to practice using a template to get a feel for each letter of the alphabet, before adding foliage flourishes and using your new techniques to transform blank ceramics.

During this workshop, you can make two to three larger baubles and two to three smaller baubles, with 12 baubles included in the kit so you can continue making more in your own time.

5. Snow dragon bath bomb making

Lush has such a recognisable scent and their products make great gifts for friends and family. Louisa Osborn will be teaching you how to make a Christmas creature that will glide around the bath, leaving streaks of blue, white and silver glitter, crackling away with popping candy. A perfect stocking filler.
