Have you tried the TikTok curtain spacing hack?

TikTok is a wealth of home decor inspiration, whether you’re looking for ways to work fairycore into your home, discover handy storage ideas or enjoy a virtual B&M homewares haul. It’s also great for discovering hacks to improve the aesthetics of your home in unconventional ways – such as spacing out your curtains equally.

What is the TikTok curtain spacing trend?

Do you want to make your window look dressed up and ready for the spring? This hack promises to space out your curtain rings so each fold sits the same space away from the other, thus creating symmetry for your window dressing.

How does the curtain spacing trend work?

It’s as simple as can be. Gather several empty toilet rolls and space them between each curtain loop as you thread through the pole. Repeat this until all the holes have an empty toilet roll between them. Hang the pole, and then you can enjoy your hanging curtains.

Where can I watch the curtain spacing hack?

The hack is illustrated in this video from @littlepettittpad on TikTok, which has to date amassed 4.9 million views on the video sharing site. You can watch it below:

Does it work?

Hailed as ‘genius’ and ‘a lifechanging hack’, it’s fair to say that Tiktokers are impressed with the simplicity of this innovative idea. TikTok user @user4206537657380 has even gone one step further and suggested a higher and wider curtain would give the room a luxurious look, making the windows look even bigger.

What alternatives could I use in the curtain spacing hack?

While empty toilet rolls are a cheap and easy to get hold of separator, there are other items you can use to create the same effect. TikTok user @RMCD commented on the video suggesting: ‘I find the toilet rolls get a bit shabby after a while from opening and closing the curtains so I got pipe insulation tubes instead!’

Another suggestion in the comments from @eye_moon00, is to use pot noodles instead, although it has been stated that these can sometimes be seen through the curtains – not the classy look the curtain spacing hack is hoping to achieve.

Where have I seen the curtain spacing hack before?

As other commenters on the video have pointed out, this isn’t the first time the curtain spacing hack has been seen. A few years ago, cleaning influencer Mrs Hinch posted videos of herself showcasing this technique using pipe insulation.
