A great reason to visit Bath – interiors brand Divine Savages opens first shop

Fans of luxe, maximalist wallpaper and interiors – rejoice! Design house Divine Savages is opening its first showroom and working studio in Bath, in the South West of the UK.

Taking on a property at Margaret’s Buildings, the interiors shop sits between the historic Royal Crescent and The Circus.

The founder team of husbands Jamie Watkins and Tom Kennedy have created a maximalist’s dream for their first store. The boutique stocks their range of exquisite wallpapers, luxurious fabrics and decorative accessories, all aimed at the brave and bold.

Since launching in 2017, Divine Savages has championed and pioneered witty, maximalist decor. The brand diffuses a mix of influences from history, culture, fashion and the natural world – but always with the signature Divine Savages twist.

This writer’s favourite pattern is Extinctopia, designed in partnership with the Natural History Museum.

The design, shown below, takes inspiration from Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkin’s elaborate Victorian theme park at Crystal Palace in London. Prehistoric beasts skulk in the bushes and frolic in the water, while Victorians wander through the Jurassic fantasy world. The dinosaurs might not be anatomically accurate, but they sure look gorgeous on a feature wall.

Their Crane Fonda wallpaper also features in our monochrome decorating guide.

Jamie, who is originally from Bath, says his return to the city marks a huge milestone in Divine Savages’ journey.

“We’re eccentric to the core and love the weird and wonderful. The quirkier the better. We like to push boundaries and design aesthetics and want to encourage our customers to do the same – our showroom is the first step in inspiring them to do so,” Jamie explains.

If you’re lucky enough to live in Bath, or are planning a visit, you can drop into the showroom to buy off-the-shelf cushions and original, quirky gifts from the brand. Or browse the vast array of wallpapers and fabrics, which are available to order. You can visit the Divine Savages Showroom at 5 Margaret’s Buildings, Bath, BA1 2LP.
