A garden firepit is no longer solely reserved for dramatic recouplings on Love Island – the popular trend looks here to stay. Since we’ve all become accustomed to spending more time outdoors, a firepit is a great way to extend the alfresco entertaining season beyond summer to spring through to autumn (throw winter into the mix too, if you’re a fan of toasted marshmallows).

The Pittsburg medium firepit, £169.99 from Dobbies Garden Centres, has an oiled steel bowl that sits on three sturdy legs, making it a very practical design with a simple elegance.
4. Square firepit
The Atlanta square firepit from B&M will keep you warm through the spring and summer evenings. It is perfect for a patio or courtyard garden, but note that it is not suitable for use on decking. The affordable firepit comes with a steel mesh spark guard and fire stick. Reduced from £60-£45.
Firepit idea: Add a bunch of herbs to the fire such as lavender, mint and sage. Not only will they smell nice, it will keep pesky mosquitos at bay too.

5. Garden firepit with BBQ rack
