Trending now: gorgeous green bedroom ideas for a calm, stylish space
Are you thinking of decorating your bedroom this season? Green is the way to go.
Searches for green bedrooms have surged by 60% in the last week on Pinterest, signalling a shift towards more colourful palettes.
But why this change in tones? And why not when typically, green is associated with spring and not the colder months?
Catherine Jacob, head of design at Hovia explains: “Green bedrooms are becoming increasingly popular because of the colour’s strong connection to nature, calm, and balance.
“This sense of tranquillity is something many of us are craving in today’s busy world.
“Softer sage and olive tones create a restful atmosphere that’s perfect for winding down at night, while deeper emerald or forest greens bring richness and sophistication.
“Leafy prints and botanical patterns are also on the rise, helping bring the outdoors in and transforming bedrooms and living spaces into a tranquil retreat.
“Ultimately, the right shade of green depends on the mood you want to create, whether that’s light and airy for relaxation or bold and dramatic for a more luxurious feel.”

Is green a good colour for a bedroom?
Green is considered a great choice in décor, but especially for bedrooms due to its calming qualities.
Green typically takes us back to nature and the natural world, so stepping into your own green space of your bedroom will help to relax you before sleep.
Whilst brightening up a space, green isn’t too gawdy, so it’s a welcome sight to wake up to.
There are a huge variety of shades of green to choose from for a bedroom space, but it is generally best to opt for a softer shade for your wall, with brighter shades used for accents or feature walls.
Which tones of green are best?
Kathryn Lloyd, Crown Colour Specialist: “Softer tones like Mellow Sage are especially popular, offering a muted, versatile green that feels fresh but not overwhelming.
“This gentle hue works beautifully when paired with natural textures like rattan or linen, creating a restful retreat that feels rooted in nature while still feeling contemporary.
“For those looking to embrace the cocooning effect, deeper greens provide the perfect backdrop for winding down.
“Shades such as Woodland Wanderer or Botany Bay envelop a room with a rich, grounded energy, helping to cultivate a sense of reassurance and tranquillity.
“It’s an elegant way to thoughtfully design your bedroom for restorative rest.
“If you’re seeking something with more impact, Evergreen Echo delivers drama without sacrificing serenity.
“Its deep, muted quality ensures the room still feels relaxing, but with a boldness that makes the space unforgettable.
“Pair it with warm woods, soft lighting, and tactile fabrics like velvet or boucle to heighten the luxurious, cocoon-like feel.
“Whether you opt for the softness of Mellow Sage or the depth of Woodland Wanderer, greens in all their shades reflect the grounding qualities of nature, proving why they’ve become a popular choice for bedrooms.”

What is the psychology of green in bedrooms?
As stated, green bedrooms create a calming and soothing space.
Green symbolises growth, freshness and harmony, helping to reduce stress and promote relaxation, which is ideal for a bedroom space.
It strikes the perfect balance between stimulation and serenity, meaning it works wonderfully in a number of spaces – not just the bedroom.
Soft greens like sage can also enhance relaxation and concentration.
Shelley Cochrane, accessories buyer at Furniture Village adds: “Green is especially suited for bedrooms, where its calming qualities set the tone for unwinding, reading, and relaxing.
“Soften the look with layered lighting and organic textures, and let green take the lead in creating a sanctuary that’s both restorative and refined.”
Overall, green is seen to offer comfort and a sense of tranquillity to your bedroom space.
What colours go well with green in a bedroom?
Shelley adds: “To channel a touch of vintage-inspired charm, take cues from retro interiors – think wood-panelled walls, 70s-style furniture, and warm timber tones.
Fluted wood panel cabinets and side tables add texture and sculptural interest, while echoing the organic rhythm of nature.
“These natural textures work beautifully with green’s grounding presence, adding warmth, depth and a comforting familiarity.
“Velvet, boucle, and corduroy add inviting tactility, while brushed brass accents introduce a hint of understated glamour.
“Velvet green beds anchor bedrooms with rich, cocooning comfort, a luxurious take on the palette’s serene spirit. “

Which blinds and curtains work in a green bedroom?
Molly Brown, Designer at Blinds2go and Curtains 2go, said: “Few colours capture the spirit of calm quite like green.
“Rooted in nature, it carries an innate sense of balance and tranquillity – qualities every bedroom should embody.
“As such, it’s little wonder that green has become one of the best-loved hues in interiors, lending itself beautifully to restful, restorative spaces.
“What makes green particularly compelling is its versatility.
“It’s what I’d regard as a ‘new neutral’, something that can be paired with almost any palette.
“Muted tones such as sage, olive, pistachio, and pine offer subtle undertones and gentle depth, making them perfect companions for both colour and pattern.
“They invite layering, encourage experimentation, and always retain an air of understated sophistication.

Bold is beautiful
“Yet green is by no means confined to subtlety. Bolder iterations – emerald, lime, forest – command attention in their own right.
“These shades can be daring when used to colour-drench a space, or strikingly elegant when set against classic neutrals for dramatic contrast.
“In every guise, green remains timeless – a true evergreen (pardon the expression) in the design lexicon, destined to endure well beyond passing trends.
“This enduring appeal translates effortlessly into window dressings, where green finds equal expression in blinds and curtains.
“We’ve noticed a particular rise in demand for verdant patterns and botanical motifs, as well as confident block colours such as olive and sage.
“Our Etta Olive Roller Blind, for instance, feels especially chic as autumn approaches – a refined, sophisticated option for the modern bedroom. For those drawn to a more botanical aesthetic, our Clarke & Clarke Attingham Forest Green Curtains offer a fresh, whimsical take on green, their lighter shade bringing a touch of joy and charm to every season.”

How do you create a relaxing green bedroom?
Creating a relaxing green bedroom means opting for softer, muted tones of green such as sage or olive.
These will provide a calming effect for your bedroom, but equally if the more dramatic greens like emerald are on your radar – they can still provide a cosy vibe if balanced out with neutrals.
Using beige, white and grey alongside a green can help keep a bedroom relaxed, as well as making it seems bigger which is naturally calming.
Adding natural elements to the space will also help, such as wood, rattan or bamboo as this will further tie in with the green scheme.
Adding green accents
If you’re concerned about committing to green walls in your bedroom, but love the idea of a green relaxing space, consider green accents instead.
You could opt for green bedding, curtains or decorative pillows instead.
This can also be created by using warm lighting or increasing the levels of natural light in your bedroom.
Laura Spencer, design director at Ashley Wilde Group explains: “You don’t have to commit to full-on green walls to make an impact.
“A more subtle approach, like layering in green through bedding, cushions, or throws, can feel equally stylish and soothing.
“When using green in this way, it’s lovely to complement it with soft, dusky pinks, which add warmth and a gentle, romantic contrast, or even neutrals like soft beige or cream to keep the look balanced and serene.
“The key is to play with textures and tones, so the room feels layered, inviting, and completely personal.”
Adding plants to your bedroom space will also help to create that relaxing vibe, bringing life and freshness to the space.
This is also a great idea if you’re reading this wanting the green bedroom revamp, but not in the position to do a full redecorating project right now.
