2. Luxury throws

Piglet in Bed is the epitome of cosy, throwing out the idea of pristinely made beds with rumpled linens that make you want to dive right in and never get out. Their Botanical Green Waffle Cotton throw (£79) is a warm olive green, that will lift the room and add depth with its textured woven waffle. It’s chunky too, adding to its snuggly feel.

3. Sustainable throws

Run by founder Izzey Hung and designer Vicky Sanders, XV Stripes is a company that’s been inspired by a love of coastal living. As well as cool design, embracing sustainability is their USP and everything from the threads to the buttons are non-harmful to the environment. The Ocean Sunlight Throw (£89) is made from 45% cotton and 55% Repreve yarns (a recycled ocean plastic) in a mellow shade of yellow.

4. Collectable throws for sofas

Loaf knows a thing or two about being cosy and their lazy quilt throws (£195) are just the ticket for winter hibernation. Made from 100% piece-dyed linen, they have a gorgeous range of colours including pottery pink, duck egg, sage and vintage white. They look great stacked up, slung on the end of your bed or draped over a sofa. To double-down on the cosy factor, Loaf’s linen easy squish quilts (£225) are made with a kantha stitch (patched cloth).

5. Geometric throws

Cosy isn’t necessarily the antithesis of chic. Marimekko’s Melooni blanket (approx £160) is a case in point. Melooni, meaning melons, is one of Finnish designer Maija Isola’s iconic bold 1960s designs. The warm blanket is made from a soft cotton and wool blend (30% of the cotton and 25% of the wool is recycled) and the look just shouts candlelit evenings in.

6. Super soft throws

Go all ski chalet-chic with the French Bedroom Company’s Chamonix Oatmeal Faux Fur Throw (£95). To replicate the softest real fur feel, the nap of the fur (the direction it grows in) has been made in a fluted linear pattern, and changes when you move the throw so that it feels real. With a faux suede backing, if you fling it over the bed or a sofa, it won’t slip off.

7. Colourful throws

Throws for sofas this winter don’t all have to be muted tones, the Wayfair x Diwali range injects a welcome boost of colour to uplift your spirit. Try the hot-pink Cookson Abigail (£59.99) hand-woven throws for sofas. The yarn is soft and cosy and has knotted fringed edges. These colourful throws are great for use outdoors if you’re planning an off-season garden party. Don’t forget plenty of lights!
