Bridgerton-inspired home décor: how to get the Regency look

Netflix’s Bridgerton has captivated our hearts, but it’s not just the characters we’re obsessed with, it’s the stunning Regency interiors too. As the much-anticipated second series of the heart-stopping period drama returns, we revisit the inspiring decor schemes within the show…

Bridgerton’s first series landed on Netflix on Christmas Day 2020, and it broke records as one of the most popular dramas ever to be produced by the streaming giant.

Inspired by Julia Quinn’s bestselling novel series, the show follows the story of the Bridgerton family as eldest daughter Daphne makes her debut in Regency London’s marriage market. While the drama and scandal have kept us watching, the interiors have captivated our interest almost as much as the Duke himself…

Regencycore

Taking its name as a continuation of the cottagecore trend, this regal alternative is less about country aesthetic and more focused on extravagance, decadence and going over the top. One of our interior trend predictions for 2021 was warmer palettes in homes to create a cosier feel, with people forgoing the beige and greys of 2020 with richer, deeper shades of colour.

This ties in with the early 19th century décor we see in Bridgerton as styling includes these strong colours, layered with creamy champagnes, powdered blues and greens; bringing glamour and individuality to homes.

Vintage wallpapers

Bring the regency trend into your home more permanently by updating your wallpaper. The prints will bring character and warmth to your abode, and would make a beautiful feature wall if you didn’t want to commit to a whole room revamp.

Nina Tarnowski, founder of Woodchip and Magnolia explains: ‘Vintage design is enjoying a resurgence, and we’re getting many customers searching for wallpapers and fabrics that fit the bill. We recommend incorporating this look into your own home by layering vintage homewares with modern elements for a balanced and cohesive scheme.’

Traditional charm

A classic example of old-world traditional charm, a regency era bath tub really is a mark of decadence in any home. This Roxburgh freestanding tub has a traditional clawfoot base giving it a revitalised beauty edge. Set this tub or one like it in a contemporary, warm coloured bathroom and you’ll have the Bridgerton regency trend nailed.

Antique wood and cane

The finer details are what makes Regency décor so special, from brass doors and cabinet handles, to caned furniture and wooden pieces with sabre or reeded legs. These special details offer real elegance and charm to furniture and give it the ‘regal’ finish.

Other details which are crucial for grasping the Regency style include accent chairs, antique mirrors on dressing tables, high society bed frames and four poster beds.

Lighting with decadence

Regencycore isn’t complete without an over the top, eye-catching light fitting. There are so many of these on the market right now as we all strive to invest in key, elaborate pieces for our homes. Our favourite is this Laura Ashley Enid 5 Light Chandelier, which will bring serious regency glamour to dining rooms, bedrooms, hallways or wherever you feel most powerful!

Floral wall art

Vintage framed prints are a must, and will really complete the regencycore look in your bathroom. Not only will they provide the room with an elegant edge, but they will also bring a focus point. If you really want to give your bathroom the regency feel, opt for some early 19th century landscape pictures and place them in gold or brass frames to give the room a real Bridgerton-esque vibe.

Dress it up

Statement bedroom furniture doesn’t just mean your bed though, and what’s more regal than a fine dressing table? We love the powder green look, reminiscent of the Featheringtons’ flamboyant style, and this floral dressing table really fits that regal, statement look. And So To Bed also offer matching side tables and wardrobes in this gorgeous green floral if you’d like to complete the look.
