New research has found that the most desirable room most Brits would like to add to their home is a gym. The study, conducted by Compare The Market, surveyed more than 2,000 Brits to find out the rooms they would choose to add to their homes if financial constraints did not apply, was compared with the volume of online searches for each of the rooms. A home gym was the clear winner, with 18.9% of those asked voting for that option, whilst being third place in search volume.

It’s not a huge surprise, given the third UK lockdown in the space of a year has once again forced gyms to close their doors and a boom in home fitness. As many have now gotten used to the freedom of home exercise, the idea of bringing effective gym equipment to the home would vastly improve the mundane nature of lockdown for a lot of us.

Home bar had the most search terms by far but only came 5th place in the survey with 12.8% of the vote. Due to the pubs, bars and clubs having been closed for several months now, it’s no wonder many of us are searching for ways to create one in the home. Many Brits have already taken the plunge, converting sheds, garages and summerhouses into garden bars since the pandemic began.

In second place in search terms was swimming pool, another nod to the closures of exercise facilities and a longing for luxury in our homes. Interestingly, in the survey only 0.6% of people selected this.

The runners up in the survey were home cinema and library, with 18.1% and 18% of the votes respectively, suggesting the lockdown is causing many of us to long for some escapism and the freedom to watch a film or read a book without the rest of our household.

At the lower end of the rankings were a craft room and a music room, likely due to the versatility of this activities.
