Is there anything more festive than sitting infront of a roaring fire? If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace, then make the most out of the opportunity to decorate it for Christmas. We’ve put together some styling tips to get you started.
Create a focal point
Make your fireplace a real talking point by hanging a festive wreath above it. Displaying a wreath in the centre of your fireplace has a similar effect as hanging a mirror above it – it creates a statement and anchors the entire room. If you’re looking for a realistic wreath that will last the season through, check out our guide to the best, including this design from Lights4fun.
More is more
If your style is naturally eclectic then you’re probably going to introduce some colour into your Christmas décor. We love this set up from Poundland, which epitomises the phrase ‘more is more’. How about this idea of stacking presents on top of a mantelpiece and dressing it with rainbow fairy lights.

Whether you’ve got an open fire, gas fire or a trendy log burner, hanging stockings above a fireplace is a festive tradition that shouldn’t be ignored. We suggest hanging them in a symmetrical fashion and embellishing your scheme with lots of greenery for a modern look.
Go for a garland
Take inspiration from our Festive Chic roomset from The Ideal Home Show Christmas and make a statement out of your fireplace. Stylist Jess Taverner chose festive accessories that complement the tiles surrounding the Morso log burner and create a beautifully tonal scheme.
Draping a garland over your mantelpiece is a must for Christmas styling. It brings the outside in and also adds a woodland element to your living room.

One of the biggest Christmas styling trends this year has to be honeycomb decorations. Just look at this incredible look from Paper Dreams! A fireplace is the perfect place to put these – if you use your fire, simply stack them at the sides of your fireplace well out of reach from the naked flame.
