Social media has been a great source of inspiration for finding our next food-related fun activity to keep our idle hands busy during the pandemic. From banana bread, to sourdough, wrap hacks and Dalgona coffee, keeping entertained during lockdown has become a tasty pastime. But working from home can mean that sometimes our lunches can be a little lacklustre…until now.

With 1.2M likes on TikTok, the now famous ‘feta pasta hack’ video simply involves putting the salty Greek cheese, baby or plum tomatoes, herbs and olive oil into ovenproof dish and baking until golden, then stirring the concoction into hot pasta – with the result being a seriously tasty and vegetarian-friendly lockdown lunch with minimal effort required! What’s more, the hashtag #fetapasta has 380M views on Tiktok alone.

This exciting new trick, created by food blogger Yumna Jawad, aka @feelgoodfoodie, has resulted in huge surge in sales of Feta, stripping the fridges bare of the dairy product and even causing shortages in Norway.

We tried and tested the recipe and approve of this innovative, healthy meal that beats its cold tuna mayonnaise counterpart.

  • Tomatoes: Yumna advises using cherry or plum tomato varieties. Their small size means they are the tastiest option and look best when they burst open!
  • Feta cheese: Use a block of feta for best results. However, should you not be able to find these, cubes can be a suitable alternative.
  • Pasta: Go wild with different shapes of pasta. Whether you choose penne or bows, twists or shells, you can also make this with gluten free varieties.
  • Seasoning and herbs: You’ll need olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic and basil but play around with the seasoning and herbs if you like. Try using fresh oregano and thyme or switching fresh garlic for roasted or even black garlic! Dried herbs are also great ways to use store cupboard staples too!

Which ovenware is best for the TikTok pasta hack though?

Although the recipe can be made in any suitable ovenproof dishware, the chicest way in our opinion is to use a Stoneware Heritage Rectangular Dish from Le Creuset’s latest Taste Adventure collection. The brand has even got on board with their version of the baked sauce too!
