Many people are choosing to avoid plastic which contains BPA (Bisphenol A), as there are reports of it being toxic to humans. Standard food tubs have been hailed as one of the most likely ways you’ll come into contact with BPA (other big culprits are receipts and tin cans), so we’ve compiled our favourite selection of BPA-free storage to keep your food fresh and give you complete peace of mind.

Nest storage containers, £25 for six, JosephJoseph

Joseph Joseph stackable BPA-free food containers with multicoloured lids

Natural light is one of the most important elements of your home’s wellness – make sure you maximise it.

JosephJoseph’s nestable range is a feat of food organisation. The lids not only snap together for easy storage, but they are colour-coordinated to a little dot at the base of every container so you immediately know which lid goes with which tub. Airtight and spill-safe, they also can be cleaned in the dishwasher and popped in the freezer. Individual tubs are available to buy from £7.

Glass stackable jars, £23.50 for three, Brabantia

Set of three Brabantia glass containers with blue and grey lids

If you’re looking for practical storage that you can display proudly on a worktop, you can’t go wrong with Brabantia’s glass jars. The grey and blue silicone lids provide a soft accent that coordinates beautifully with both traditional and modern kitchens, and their stackable design saves space while still looking chic.

Lock & Lock Eco food storage containers, from £2.99, Lakeland

The Lock & Lock Eco range is made from the offcuts of Lock & Lock’s hero range of food storage – so these tubs are not only enviromentally friendly toxin-wise, they’re made from recycled materials too! Each one is a different colour, as it has been made from a unique mix of BPA-free plastic.

365+ glass food storage range, from £1.75, Ikea

For the widest (and most affordable) range of glass food storage, Ikea is the place to go. There’s square, rectangle and circular-shaped designs in a variety of sizes, all with the option of having a BPA-free plastic clip-top lid or a bamboo one. The bamboo design is definitely more suited to ingredient storage and shouldn’t be relied on for spill-free transportation, as the seal is quite light. An ingenious addition is the option to buy coloured silicone “gaskets” to use with the plastic lids – great for colour-coordinating different foods or leftovers.

Sistema Soup Mug To Go, £7.95, Amazon

Sistems pink soup mug from John Lewis

OXO POP food storage, from £5, Amazon

OXO Pop BPA-free food containers stacked on a kitchen counter

Similar to the Brabantia range above, this stackable selection from OXO has one major benefit – its straight-edged design uses even less space on a kitchen counter. There’s over 18 shapes available for you to store everything from spices to sugar, and they look oh-so-neat lined up together.

Pyrex Cook & Store range, from £7.99, Amazon

Pyrex Cook and Store BPA-free food storage with green lids, stacked inside a fridge

Made from borosilicate glass, which is resistant to extreme temperature changes (where normal glass would crack), the Pyrex Cook & Store range gives you complete peace of mind in storing and then cooking or reheating your food in the same container.
