The perfect new summer home accessories

As we catch glimpses of summer (we know you’re out there somewhere) we can always get in the mood in the meantime with the hottest new summer home accessories that are filling the shops. And if there’s one theme tying them all together, it’s a touch of fun.

For interiors, there are vibrant new prints to hang on the walls, gorgeous striped cubed pouffes and eclectic bright yellow, lemon-clad ceramic vases.

On the outdoor front, there’s plenty to be inspired by. Think hot pink and bright orange candles lining alfresco tablescapes, so you can talk outside long after dusk; retro, floral enamel ware for English countryside picnics; and a chic weather-all-weathers parasol.

There are also table linens inspired by the Azure waters of Maltese salt pans and hand-woven rainbow jute rugs.

Whether you’re off on holiday or staycationing, these new summer home accessories will lift your mood.

Update your prints

Even if you’re not thinking of updating your artwork, Violet’s Print House might change your mind. It’s run by artist/illustrator Sabrina, who creates modern, contemporary art prints for all areas of the home.

Sabrina says her “paintings are offered as high quality giclee prints, a form of fine art printing that displays rich intense colour and can last 100 years with the right care”.

Available framed or unframed, her new range includes fun, fruity still lifes, colourful vases of flowers and a really gorgeous range of earth toned abstract leaf prints. If you can’t decide which is your favourite, try a gallery wall and mix and match them all.

Add stripes

Rose & Grey’s coral vintage striped pouffe feels like happiness in a square cube of stuffed fabric. There’s something quite joyful and comforting about just looking at it.

Billed as an “upholstered footstool or low to the ground seat”, pouffes are perfect for lounging around on, or using as extra seats when guests come round. Pair it with the matching coral vintage striped seat mattress to add colour and cosiness to your space, or opt for a few. The vintage striped pouffes come in sage green, too.

Display your flowers with a playful twist

Come summer, a bright sunny yellow is vibrant and uplifting, and can give the dose of optimism you need coming into the warmer months. Like this Luscious Lemons vase from Joe Browns, which will bring a playful twist to your summer blooms.

Yellow works well as a pop of colour and is a perfect hue for a summer home accessory. As Vincent Van Gogh once said, “How wonderful yellow is. It stands for the sun.” All in all, a great way of bringing summer energy into your home.

Elevate your tablescapes

Talking Tables, who do some of the best tablescapes out there, have teamed with the National Garden Scheme on their Great British Garden Party campaign for the second year running with their Truly Scrumptious table ranges.

In this case, more is more. Think pale pink and orange glass candle holders filled with hot pink and bright orange candles, and bud vases filled with wild flowers. Then you just need the weather on your side.

Upgrade your enamel ware

Iconic Falcon enamelware has been a staple in British homes since 1920, and is as timeless today as it was then. The original white pieces with blue rims are instantly recognisable and will always be great for a picnic.

For a colourful update on the practical tableware, EnamelHappy make retro-inspired pieces from plates to mugs to stainless steel whistling kettles, which are perfect for camping.

For a graphic update on enamel ware, Hip Unique has a range of monochromatic pieces of tableware to check out.

Refresh your table linens

For an easy-to-update summer home accessory, a fresh new tablecloth is ideal. Textile designer Abigail Borg, who specialises in hand-illustrated patterned home furnishings, has the most beautiful new collection.

Made of 55% linen and 45% cotton, when talking about her inspiration behind Salt Pan (pictured), Abigail says, “The grid-like patterns of salt pans or ‘Salinas’ have dotted the coastlines of the Maltese islands for thousands of years. Still in use today, sea water passes into pools where it is warmed by the sun and slowly starts to evaporate. Salt begins to crystallise, and after about a week it is ready to harvest by hand.”

She adds, “Inspired by the chequerboard patterns created by this centuries old technique, ‘Salt Pan’ is my interpretation of the organic shapes and shimmering pools often seen when flying over the islands of Malta and Gozo. The Azure Ecru colourway (pictured) is evocative of the many shades of blue which surround the Maltese islands in the heart of the Mediterranean sea.”

Replace your picnic ware

Primark has got picnics sorted this summer with an affordable range, covering everything from tumblers to lunchboxes (the bright pink stripes are particularly fun). The range is called Soft Tropics, which is described as “destination decor, without the flight time”.

There are brightly coloured pack-away picnic blankets with matching cooler bags, hot pink scalloped plastic chalice glasses and tumblers, and strawberry print throws for when it gets cooler. If you’re going for a beach picnic, they have some brilliant striped towels in every colour to collect.

Put up a stylish parasol

If last year’s parasol is looking worse for wear, go for a stylish new one that will last. Weaver Green’s new range includes gorgeous acorn-print canvas parasols (pictured), with a solid acacia wood frame.

Unlike most parasols, these have a fabric that’s easy to remove and is entirely machine washable. During the winter you can store it in the matching canvas bag.

The fabric is made from 100% recycled plastic, but is super soft. They’re UV-stable, stain-resistant and incredibly easy to clean, keeping them looking good summer after summer.

Bring in colour with bright rugs

The Braided Rug Company is an untapped homewares gem. Working with a family-run manufacturing company in Bangladesh, running off solar energy and using organic jute fibres, they also recycle the soft rain water for dying the yarns.

The Braided Rug Company explain that “jute is the softest natural fibre and is very comfortable underfoot”. It’s also “naturally fire retardant and 100% biodegradable”.

Made by local artisans using in-house designed colourways, the Harlequin Rainbow Jute Rug comes in two sizes, 92 x 152 cm and 122 x 183cm. They also have a full range of organic jute baskets, everything from tulip baskets to the perfect striped jute beach bags.
