DIY décor: How Stacey Solomon made giant baubles
December 7, 2022
Stacey Solomon’s DIY Christmas decorations have proved a real hit on Instagram. The giant baubles she recently made using some of the balls her kids no longer play with are a particular favourite among the Good Homes team. If a beautifully decorated home on a budget is the name of the game this Christmas, then here’s how to make your own giant bauble decks using bits and bobs lying around the house…
What you’ll need
- bouncy balls around the size of a football
- spray paint in the colour of your choice
- giant glitter sparkles
- gold or silver paper cups
How to make giant baubles
- Get a bouncy ball. This could be old or new big, or small. Stacey uses a Peppa Pig children’s ball for this DIY.
- Pick a colour. Stacey uses a deep, maroony-brown and white, but you can use any colour to match your Christmas aesthetic this year. You can spray paint if you want it to be easier, or hand paint it if you’d prefer.
- Before the paint is completely dry you can dab on the glitter, the bigger the better!
- Get a paper cup, Stacey uses a reflective gold one, and cut off the rim (and save it for later).
- Once you have done, that cut upwards about half an inch leaving equal space between each cut, you need 12 cuts.
- Using the rim that you saved from before, glue it to the bottom of the cup in the shape of a handle.
- Cut out every other square and fold the others forward, so they are sticking out.
- Put hot glue on the parts of the cup that is sticking out and press it to the ball, with the handle facing upwards.
- Set up your new baubles on the shelf, on a mantel, or even on the tree (but you’re going to need a big tree!) Stacey made four in total, and stacks three on a shelf in a cluster.
