Have you ever tried a pickle cocktail?

It’s the trend that’s taken TikTok by storm (thank you, Dua Lipa and your much-replicated Diet Coke, pickle juice and jalapeño juice concoction…) but perhaps adding a pickled-kick to your beverage isn’t too strange after all.

Of course, seasoned martini drinkers have long loved the Gibson (a martini served with pickled onions, in place of a twist of lemon or olives) but pickles are certainly having a bit of a moment.

Charlotte Dovey, founder of Quince Creative, has years of experience tracking emerging food trends and told us: “Today’s pickle-infused cocktails are more than a cheeky twist — they’re a tasty way to get a health boost.

“With pickles packing a punch of electrolytes, antioxidants, and vitamins (as well as an array of digestive benefits) it’s no wonder they’re making their way from our plates to our glasses. So, cheers to a trend that’s both good for the gut and great on the palate!”

With that in mind, we’ve rounded up recipes for pickle cocktails, perfect for umami lovers everywhere (and just in time for National Pickle Day coming up on November 14…)

Inspired by Dua Lipa’s viral TikTok sensation, The Gate restaurant in Hammersmith has crafted a cocktail with a blend of pickle brine, gin, cola and hot, sweet jalapeño – and a few pickles for good measure. Here’s how to create it:

Glass

  • Large copa glass

Ingredients

Directions

Fill the copa glass with ice and sift approximately 20ml of brine from the Vadasz pickle pot into a glass; add 50ml gin and 1/2 teaspoon of the jalapeño relish and top with cola.

Garnish with dill pickle slices.

For an extra-pickled kick on an old favourite, the experts at Vadasz recommend the below recipe – perfect for brunches… with a difference.

Ingredients

Directions

Measure your vodka, tomato juice and pickle brine and pour straight over a glass of ice.

Add your dashes of Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce and sprinkle with your pinches of salt and pepper. Stir until glass feels cold and the strain into a tall glass of choice.

For full pickle-impact, founder Nick Vadasz adds: “Finish building your drink by ditching your umbrellas and instead submerging a slice of pickle (or two) or perching a whole jalapeño on the side of your glass.”
