Katie Piper: The Skin We Live In
Welcome to my home and new home here at Good Homes!
This column is about real life. About busy days, family routines, laundry piles, muddy shoes, pets on sofas and the quiet comfort of clean sheets at the end of the day.
It’s about creating a home that feels supportive and kind… not perfect, but thoughtful.
A home that works for everyone who lives in it. We are not a “perfect” household, but it’s full of love, laughter and some moments of calm!
I’m excited to share with you all I’ve discovered and am still learning now.
Home has always been incredibly important to me – not just as a place to live, but as somewhere that holds comfort, routine, family life and wellbeing all at once.
Over the years, my understanding of wellbeing has evolved.
What once felt like a focus on products and treatments has gradually become something much more grounded and everyday.
I’ve learned that how we live, how we care for our homes, and the small choices we make day after day can have a profound impact on how we feel, both physically and emotionally.
That’s what I hope to explore with you here.
As someone who has lived with sensitive skin for many years, I’ve become particularly aware of how closely our skin is connected to our environment.
We often think of skincare as something that happens in the bathroom, but in reality, our skin is in constant contact with the world around us: with clothes, towels, bedding and the surfaces we touch every day.
That awareness has changed how I approach everyday care, not just for myself, but for my whole family (including my puppy Sugar!).
I’ve come to understand that skincare isn’t just about what you apply to your skin, it’s also about what touches it. The fabrics we live in. The products we wash them with. The routines we repeat without a second thought.
Those details matter more than we realise.
Which brings me to something else I’m really proud to share.
Alongside this column, I’ve recently taken on a new role as Brand and Lifestyle Consultant for Surcare.

It’s a partnership rooted in lived experience and shared values, and one that feels like a natural extension of how I now live and care for my home.
Surcare’s fragrance, dye and enzyme-free products are dermatologically approved and designed to be gentle on skin, without compromising on performance.
They’ve become part of my everyday routine because they support the idea that skincare starts long before you open a bathroom cabinet, it begins in the laundry room and at the kitchen sink.
For me, working with Surcare isn’t about fronting a brand. It’s about championing a way of thinking that puts skin, comfort and care at the heart of everyday home life.

I’m really excited to share more of my life, my thinking and my routines with you in the months ahead: honestly, practically and without judgement.
My hope is that this column feels like a conversation, one that helps you see your home and your habits a little differently.
Because skincare isn’t just what you put on your skin. It’s what touches it every day. And fabric, in many ways, is our second skin.
