Baking hacks for perfect cakes and sweet treats
Love baking? The colder months are the perfect time for firing up the oven and whipping up batches of tasty baked treats. Thankfully, the experts over at The Cake & Bake Show have shared their best baking hacks with us, just in time.
From planning ahead and cooling your dough, to money-saving supermarket buys, here are four baking hacks you’ll wish you knew sooner…
1. Chill your dough
Making cut-out biscuits? We’ve got a top-tip for preventing them from spreading in the oven.
When baking these, Rebecca Honeywell (Honeywell Bakes) recommends always chilling your dough on the baking tray for at least 30 minutes after cutting the shapes. Easy!
2. Affordable fondant tip
Farley Berry advises that to make cute fondant cupcakes you don’t need to fork out on expensive fondant.
All of Lady Berry Cupcakes‘ designs are with basic supermarket fondant, even the little 3D models!

3. Plan ahead
Simone Taylor (Sims Sweets) recommends baking your sponge in advance; allow it to cool down completely, wrap it in cling film and place it in the fridge until the next day.
This allows it to firm up and prepare for decorating. Cling film locks in moisture so no need to worry about it drying up!
4. The underbaking trick
Did you know cookies will continue to cook through as they cool down?
So, for that perfect gooey in-the-middle, crisp on-the-outside texture, Jessie Marsden (Jessie Bakes Cakes) suggests always underbaking your cookies by a few minutes and leaving to cool. You’ll see the texture transform!
