The John Lewis advert has dropped, our usual flat white has become a gingerbread latte and mince pies have become our daily go-to snack.

Yep, the countdown to the most wonderful time of the year has most definitely begun.

Across the country, boxes of baubles are being dusted off, lights are being gingerly tested, and the scent of orange and cinnamon is starting to waft through our homes.

There’s something undeniably special about the way we throw ourselves into festive decorating each year.

“On Etsy, the festive season isn’t cookie-cutter – it’s about feeling seen,” explains Dayna Isom Johnson, Etsy Trend Expert.

“It’s all about personal expression and making every moment feel truly special.”

Whether you’re looking for Nonna-inspired cosiness, Nutcracker-level drama, or even playful rebellion, Dayna says it is possible to write your own décor rules this Christmas.

“Our trends prove the festive season isn’t one-size-fits-all – it’s about leaning into what feels most you,” she explains.

Nonna Holiday

A warm and nostalgic take on the festive season, this trend feels as though it’s been lifted straight from Grandma’s kitchen.

Think hand-crocheted doilies, embroidered table linens, tomato-red accents, and charming, food-focused décor that celebrates time-honoured traditions.

It’s a move away from sleek minimalism towards comforting, layered cosiness and where every recipe book, pasta bowl and serving spoon has a story to tell.

“This look is rooted in sentiment and storytelling, a celebration of heirloom style and the joy of food and family,” Kunal says of the trend.

To adopt the look this Christmas he recommends embracing embroidered linens, ruffled napkins and ceramic serving bowls layered with red glassware and vintage silver.

Carry the nonna look into spring and summer by blending its nostalgic, homespun charm with a modern touches.

Vintage kitchen textiles paired with contemporary tableware, heirloom-inspired patterns in updated colourways, and a renewed appreciation for décor that feels both heartfelt and handmade.

“Evolve this festive trend into a Mediterranean-inspired kitchen with tactile textures, terracotta accents, and a few authentic vintage pieces that feel lived-in rather than styled,” Kunal adds.

Supper club

After a period of laid-back hosting, it seems we’re ready to bring a touch of drama back to the dinner party.

Taking cues from the retro dinner party revival, Etsy experts say the supper club trend celebrates the art of entertaining with elegant tablescapes, statement serveware and a hint of tongue-in-cheek glamour.

It marks a return to festive hosting with all the trimmings for evenings that sparkle with style, laughter, and connection long after the final toast.

“This is entertaining with a little theatre,” Kunal says of the supper club trend.

“For Christmas, create a scene with scalloped placemats, coloured glassware and candlelight that encourages guests to linger.”

Carry the Supper Club style into 2026 by pairing classic, glamorous entertaining elements with modern twists – elegant table settings, striking centrepieces, and playful details that make everyday dining feel celebratory.

“Add to the spirit with a statement pendant above the table, upholstered chairs in jewel tones and curated tableware that makes every meal feel like an occasion,” Kunal adds.

Play Haus

If you like your festive décor a little kitsch then this could be the trend for you.

Etsy’s experts describe play haus as a playful, colour-drenched aesthetic that taps into childlike wonder and fun, and embodies Gen Z’s rebellion against polish.

“It celebrates dopamine-fuelled chaos, surreal collectibles, and nostalgia-driven accessories that feel like an IRL brain break,” the description continues.

Imagine oversized bows, vivid palettes, and cartoonish ceramics straight out of a toy chest.

Maximalist, irreverent, and joy-first, play haus turns the festive season into a playground for creativity – a shift from curated feeds to unfiltered expression.

When it comes to embracing the trend Dayna suggests accessorising rather than simply decorating. “Dress your space the way you’d dress yourself,” she explains.

“Hang a squishy for a tree decoration, or gift a collectible that sparks joy!”

Dopamine décor has been brightening our homes for several seasons now, and its cheerful, colour-soaked spirit shows no sign of fading with 2026 set to embrace even more mood-boosting hues and playful, feel-good design touches.

If you like your interiors a little playful Kunal suggests channelling the play haus energy through art and accessories.

“A bold lamp, abstract prints or colourful glass sculptures that bring joy year-round without overwhelming your space.”

Nutcrackercore

A whimsical nod to a classic Christmas aesthetic, Etsy experts say Nutcrackercore spins gilded accents, deep jewel tones, and velvet ribbons into moments that feel as dramatic as the performance itself.

“With ballet references making a comeback in both fashion and interiors, Nutcrackercore is the natural festive extension – ornate, dreamy, and built for main-character energy,” the experts explain.

“When in doubt, add velvet,” Dayna continues. “Whether on stockings, ribbons, or table runners, velvet details instantly bring Nutcracker fantasy to life.”

Bring Nutcrackercore into your post-Christmas decor by weaving in its elegant, theatrical elements – from soft ballet pastels to ornate metallic touches – for a hint of fairytale magic that will last well after the decorations are packed away.

Kunal suggests letting it evolve into a more refined look by pairing rich tones with silk cushions, antique mirrors and statement lighting that nods to classic glamour rather than pure nostalgia.

Gothmas

This year Christmas style is taking a gothic twist, mixing brooding elegance with just the right amount of shadowy allure.

Moody, magical, and a little mysterious, Etsy experts say this darker festive look embraces a darker side of winter with gothic candles, velvet ribbons, black lace accents, and celestial motifs.

“Dramatic yet romantic, Gothmas is the perfect backdrop for night-owl soirées,” the experts add.

If you fancy injecting the darkly romantic side of Christmas into your seasonal décor Kunal suggests introducing black tapered candles, lace table runners and antique brass accessories to give your festive table a moody edge.

Take inspiration from Wednesday Addams and have yourself a merry little Gothmas.

Building on the popularity we’ve already seen this year with Wednesday-inspired décor, this darkly playful style looks set to continue making its mark beyond the festive season.

If you love a moodier look, Kunal advises introducing textured wallpaper, velvet upholstery and low lighting to take a design direction that feels more “old-world luxury” than gothic fantasy.

Shiver the Season

Etsy experts say we should think of this trend as a festive treasure map.

“A cold-weather reimagining of swashbuckling style, it merges nautical details with frosted finishes,” they advise.

Think icy jewels, metallic accents and shimmering opulence. Adventurous and a little rebellious, this trend offers a sparkling escape from more traditional Christmas decor.

To embrace the look Dayna suggests stacking brass, silver and gold accents together to create the look of treasures unearthed over time.

“Decorate with metallics, mother-of-pearl ornaments and layered candlelight that catches every shimmer,” Kunal adds.

Carry this trend into your 2026 décor by blending its icy, nautical-inspired elements with everyday glamour – frosted finishes, metallic accents, and jewel-toned details that add a hint of drama and a touch of playful, treasure-filled intrigue all year round.

“Reinterpret this look through interiors that mix metals, brass, chrome and silver, with oceanic hues and statement accessories that feel collected, not coordinated,” Kunal adds.
