6 decorating tips for a durable hallway
September 4, 2020
Hallways are a high traffic area of the home and need to be durable to withstand these types of conditions. If you’re considering redecorating your hallway follow our top tips for creating a stylish and durable hallway.
1. Wipe-clean paint
Hallways are functional spaces to put coats and shoes on, sort the kids out before you leave the house as well as many other activities. For this reason, they can get messy quite quickly and need to be easy to keep clean. The Dulux Easycare washable paint is a great option for this, as any dirt and grime can easily be washed away using a warm damp cloth. Available in a huge array of colours, you’ll be sure to find a shade that suits your home.

2. LVT flooring
The type of flooring you choose is an important decision in any area of your home. However, for a hallway it’s vital that it’s going to be hardwearing. LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tiles) is known to be the most durable floor type as it’s waterproof and has a built in scratch and stain guard, making it more practical than tiled or wooden floors.

3. Rugs or runners
Protect your hallway floors with a textured rug or runner. Jute is a popular option right now, for it’s rustic boho appearance but it’s also a fab material for hallways and it’s super hardwearing and perfect for muddy feet or paws.

4. Shoe storage
Avoid wearing shoes in your hallway and throughout the house to protect your floor surfaces. Shoe storage should be a key element of any hallway and we are huge fans of this Bianca rattan design. With two handy shelves, it’s a stylish and functional optional for an on-trend entrance way.

5. Stylish door mat
A door mat is a tried and tested option for keeping your hallway looking fresh and clean. Buy two door mats, one for outside of your front door and one for in your hallway to make sure no muddy shoes make their way through into your home. There are so many fun and quirky designs to choose from so you’ll definitely find one to suit your interior style.

6. Clever paint techniques
Choosing durable wall and floor coverings is vital for creating a hardwearing hallway however there are a number of clever techniques that help mask any pesky dirt or grime caused by footfall. Painting a two-toned effect works wonders for hallways and keeping them looking pristine. Opt for a darker colour on the bottom half and a lighter shade for the top half, preferably using a washable paint.
