Do you have the ‘shed of the year’ 2025?

Cuprinol Shed of the Year is back for its 19th year, celebrating creativity, sustainability and our love of outdoor spaces.

This year it has a brand-new category – Eco Haven – spotlighting sheds that champion biodiversity and sustainable design. This is encouraging shed owners across the UK to create pollinator-friendly spaces by adding colour whilst supporting the local wildlife.

The new category is inspired by Cuprinol’s partnership with the pollinator protection initiative Bee1.

What are the Cuprinol Shed of the Year 2025 categories?

There are several categories to enter for the Cuprinol Shed of the Year 2025.

Alongside the new Eco Haven category, there are additionally:

  • Most Colourful Shed
  • Simple but Effective
  • Budget
  • Unexpected/Unique
  • Cabin or Summerhouse
  • Pub or Entertainment
  • Workshop/Studio

Andrew Wilcox, Head judge and Founder of the competition, is as intrigued as ever to see what this year’s participants showcase: “Every year the entries just keep getting better. I’m excited to see the wave of extraordinary sheds once again, especially those where Sheddies have embraced creativity and got inventive with sustainable design choices.

“I’m particularly excited about the new Eco-Haven category, which I hope will inspire entries that champion pollinators, biodiversity, and sustainability – we’ve seen a few over the years but I’d love to see more.

How to nominate your shed

If you think your shed has what it takes to be Shed of the Year, you can enter by visiting readersheds.co.uk and submitting a minimum of six photos of your shed. You’ll also need to provide a description of the inspiration behind the creation, why it’s a contender for the top spot and whether Cuprinol has been used to add a vibrant splash of colour.

The deadline for entry submissions is midnight on Saturday 31 May.

A panel of judges will select an initial shortlist of sheds from the entrants. This is then followed by a public vote which will be held on the website to determine the category winners. Then, a final judging panel will select the overall winner of Shed of the Year 2025.

What is the prize for Shed of the Year 2025?

This year’s overall Shed of the Year 2025 winner will receive £1,000 in cash, £250 worth of Cuprinol products and an exclusive nature’s getaway experience worth up to £500.

The category winners will receive a plaque each to commemorate their win.

Who was last year’s winner?

Last year’s winner was Wrinkly, Rusty & Retro by Wayne Dawber from Crewe. It’s a great example of what can be done with sustainability front of mind while Wayne’s use of colour delivers real visual impact and left a lasting impression on the judges.

It’s a great example of what can be done with sustainability front of mind while Wayne’s use of colour delivers real visual impact and left a lasting impression on the judges.

‘Wrinkly, Rusty and Retro’ was a labour of love for Wayne, who originally embarked on his project as a place to store his gardening tools out of the way for his wife’s benefit.

It quickly became the marvellous creation it is as Wayne combined his passion for reusing disregard materials, such as using corrugated metal from a torn-down stable roof.

The painting for the shed was also inspired by 1950s magazine adverts.

What are the experts saying?

“We’re more excited than ever to see this year’s shed entries,” says Marianne Shillingford, Cuprinol Creative Director & Colour Expert.

“I’m particularly looking forward to seeing how bold colours and personal expression continue to shine in this year’s ‘Most Colourful Shed’ category.

“It’s truly inspiring to see how colour can enhance the environment, encourage outdoor living, and foster a deeper connection with nature. Sheds offer a unique space to enjoy the beauty of wildlife and greenery right in our own gardens.

For the first time, the Cuprinol Shed of the Year is collaborating with home improvement retailer, Wickes as the official retail partner for the competition.
