6 of the best garden heaters

July 14, 2023

Entertain al fresco all year round with Good Homes magazine’s pick of the best garden and patio heaters for the home. But what kind of patio heater should you go for, gas or electric? We’ve all huddled around a large gas heater in a pub garden, and while they do give off a good kick of heat, gas is expensive right now, and most of the heat disappears right into the night air. So electric might be your best bet.

1. BBQ Firepit

Made fro stirdy steel, the La Hacienda Alexis Firepit (£105, B&Q) will bring warmth and light to your outside space and is perfect for chilly afternoons and evenings, whether dining alfresco with family or entertaining friends. The deep bowl design comes with a safety tool, mesh lid and cooking grill so you can use it to BBQ while the decorative leaf pattern and surface will develop its own patina over time.

2. Tall chimney

Keep the garden or patio smoke-free with the Black Metal Chiminea (£69.99, VonHaus). The Smoke simply rises up and out from the top and you can use this wood burner as an outdoor heater or as a BBQ with the addition of the grill that comes with it. The laser-cut design provides wind protection for the flames, so you can enjoy the chiminea on a windy day.

3. Log store

Handcrafted in high quality crude steel, the Cook King Rosa Outdoor Chiminea (£355, Naken) is an outdoor garden stove with integrated log store. It quickly reaches a high temperature while the welded design is stable and durable, perfect for patios. It also comes with a removable ash tray for easy cleaning while the exhaust outlet protects you from smoke.

4. Remote control

Easy to set up and use, the Malibu 2000W Freestanding Patio Heater (£379, Lime Lace) is an electric outdoor heater that delivers an instant warm glow. The portable design can easily be moved into a chilly spot and it has two power levels and a timer, plus remote control. For peace of mind, it also has a tip-over safety protection so it switches itself off if it accidentally gets knocked over.
