How to successfully repot plants
Make sure to spend your time taking extra care of your indoor and outdoor plants during lockdown. Here’s how to successfully repot them.

With sunnier skies on the horizons, your plants may be due a growth spurt, leading them to outgrow their current pots.
Follow our step-by-step guide below on how to successfully repot your plants to keep them thriving.
1.Choose a larger pot
If your plant has outgrown it’s current pot, source a larger one that offers room to grow. We recommend choosing a pot that is a couple of inches bigger in diameter than your current one. For an outdoor plant, it’s crucial the pot has drainage holes in it to allow water to escape and avoid root rot. For indoor plants, drainage can also be beneficial, and you’ll need to also purchase a saucer for it to sit on to catch escaping water. Otherwise, just be mindful not to overwater indoor plants without drainage.
2. Cover the bottom of the pot for drainage
To ensure proper drainage, cover the bottom of your pot with shards of broken pot or a coffee filter – basically anything that will allow the water to drain out but to prevent the soil from blocking the hole or falling out.
3. Layer fresh soil
Put a layer of fresh soil in your new pot. Fill it halfway up with new soil to make sure there will be plenty of room to grow.
4. Gently remove plant and detangle roots
Wiggle your plant out of its current pot and detangle the roots to make sure they will easily embed themselves into the new soil.
5. Repot!
Pop your plant into its new pot, mesh the roots with the new soil and place a layer of fresh soil on top and pat into place. Whether it’s an indoor or outdoor plant, choose a perfect spot for it to thrive and you’re good to go.
