John Lewis & Partners has revealed that it is the first retailer to bring a weighted blanket to the high street, helping to make these intriguing products more easily accessible than ever for those shoppers that want to give them a try.

If you’re not familiar with the concept, these quilted blankets are filled with weighted glass beads and designed to spread a deep but even pressure over the body.

While there are limited scientific studies to back up the beneficial properties of weighted blankets, they’ve been observed to help users to deal with issues such as restlessness, anxiety, stress and to generally contribute to a better night’s sleep. The #weightedblanket hashtag on Instagram has over 45,000 posts and counting, so it’s clear that many people out there in the world are finding them useful!

The blankets come in a range of weights to suit different bodies. Unna Patel, who is the Filled Bedding Buyer at John Lewis & Partners, explains how to pick the blanket to suit you: “We recommend customers select a blanket weight that is around 10% of their body weight so we have created six different weighted blankets of differing weights for customers to choose from.”

The best news? These blankets are competitively priced compared to many available online, retailing from just £60.
