After a well-rested night, you will wake feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the day. However, if you find yourself yawning from the morning into the afternoon and your body’s aching, it could be a sign that your mattress needs an upgrade.

With so many variations of mattress types to choose from, ensuring you’ve purchased the right one can seem difficult. Good Homes roomsets sponsor at the Ideal Home Show and sleep experts, Unikbed, use their UnikLab® 3D mattress measurement system to find out customers personal requirements and individual needs.

This clever piece of tech carefully measures the pressure that your body creates on the mattress and produces pressure charts of your body. Additionally, Unikbed experts evaluate factors influencing your sleep quality such as sleeping habits, sleeping positions and health conditions.

This year, with the theme Best of British, our talented stylists will be creating ‘Rooms for Royals’ including her majesty’s country garden-inspired bedroom and en-suite, featuring one of Unikbed’s finest mattresses.

From good sleep hygiene and temperature control to body structure and the size of the mattress, the experts at Unikbed show you how to choose a mattress fit for a queen.

Think about your body structure

“When buying a mattress you need to think about your body structure more than just your weight. That mattress should mould into the contours of your body and support your spine alignment. With the help of UnikLab® 3D mattress measurement system, we measure the customer’s personal body structure including the shoulders, waist, pelvic area and spinal curves.”

Choosing the right size mattress

“Choosing the right size mattress depends on how many people typically sleep on it, the person’s body structure (shoulder width) and a person’s height. For a single person, we recommend mattress width 105cm and for two people 160-180cm.

The more space in the bed, the better the sleep quality. We recommend +15cm on top of your height and note that mattress length 200-210cm is a standard length for Unikbed..”

How to avoid a restless sleep

“Restless sleep might be a sign of an unsuitable mattress or temperature variations (too hot or too cold). We recommend the use of high quality and airy materials that don’t absorb heat or moisture in them. Memory foam is not recommended for people who suffer from night time sweating.”

Consider a top mattress if you have allergies

“You spend one third of your life sleeping on your mattress so it is essential to have a one that doesn’t contain allergens or chemicals. We recommend the use of a top mattress to improve your sleep hygiene. Top mattresses should have removable covers that are machine washable in +60 degrees. In UnikBed’s selection you can choose a fabric with embedded silver yarn. Silver thread helps to regulate body temperature and makes the material antibacterial without toxic substances.”

The budget

“You sleep one third of your life so the mattress should be the most important investment in your home. Usually the higher the price the better the quality. Look into the warranty period of mattresses. A high quality mattress should at least have a 10 year warranty period.”

Top tip

“Using of a top mattress extends the life of your mattress. Top mattresses have a substantial effect on sleeping comfort, pressure relief and maintaining good sleep hygiene. All top mattresses should have removable and machine washable covers. The recommended washing temperature is +60°C.

Your top mattress is determined by your choice of mattress along with your sleeping habits and preferences.”
