Dig out your cloak and dagger and get ready to perfect your pumpkin carving skills because it's the most spooktactular time of the year! Whether you're seeing in Halloween with a scary movie marathon or a costume party, no celebration is complete without a tasty batch of homemade popcorn.

Follow these three easy steps to make the perfect stovetop popcorn at home - just try not think about that classic scene from Scream when making it...


  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 50g popping corn kernels
  • Your choice of icing sugar, salt, honey or butter


  1. Quarter-fill a large heavy-based pan with a tight-fitting lid with1tbsp sunflower oil and up to 50g of popping corn kernels.
  2. Cook with the lid on over an open fire until the kernels start to ‘pop’ and burst out of their skins.
  3. Once the popping slows down, pour into a large bowl. Sprinkle with icing sugar, salt, drizzled honey or butter – you choose!
