We love a glass of Italian fizz in the sun, but did you know Britain is now the world’s biggest consumer of Prosecco, quaffing a quarter of all production?

Produced in North Eastern Italy from ‘Glera’ grapes, the sparkling wine is controlled by DOC or DOCG, but as climate change and Brexit bombards our news, we share five alternatives to sip on a summer’s day, with some available on our doorstep!

Colle Baio Organic Prosecco, £11.99

Colle Baio Organic Prosecco

The first organic Prosecco Superiore DOCG produced by Il Colle. An exceptionally fine and elegant sparkling wine with characteristic ancient flavours and aromas of apple, exotic fruit, peach and yellow rose.

According to the winemaker, it is ideal as an aperitif, perfect with fish meals and with light first courses and white meat. Its lightness makes it perfect at every hour of the day to celebrate every happy moment. Buy at Winerack.co.uk.

Smith & Evans English Sparkling Wine, £28.99

Waitrose.co.uk

Celebrations deserve something extra special, but if you fancy something a little different from Champagne and Prosecco, consider grapes from Great Britain and sip and flute of England’s finest.

Whether you’re at a party, raising a glass at a wedding breakfast or toasting the New Year - make sure it’s with Smith & Evans English Sparkling Wine. Produced in Somerset and suitable for vegetarians and vegans there’s no better way to enjoy a glass of fizz!

Made from Chardonnay Pinot Noir Pinot Me grapes, the wine has rich aromas of lemon, spice and toasted nut and keeps a taut balance between freshness and the minerality, according to Waitrose.

Lambrini Blanc Fully Sparkling, £5.00

Asda.co.uk

Lambrini Rosemary Sparkling Cocktail With Bottle

Attention Prosecco lovers, Lambrini’s latest launch is the answer to your prayers.

Something of nineties nostalgia, Lambrini celebrated their 25 year anniversary by launching a fully Sparkling variant at just £5 a pop! (Currently £4.00 on Rollback at Asda!)

The bottles are available at Asda stores nationwide and are a perfect Perry for your squad to enjoy whether you’re planning a night in or getting ready to hit the town.

At 5.5% abv, the new 75cl Lambrini Blanc is just 75 cals per 125ml glass (15 calories lower than generic Prosecco).

Eisberg Alcohol Free Sparkling Blanc/Rosé, £3.99

Ocado.co.uk

Looking to raise a glass in style, but cutting down on the calories or alcohol? - Eisberg Sparkling Blanc and Rosé are the answer!

The UK’s number one alcohol free wine worked with expert winemakers to create the ultimate alternative to your favourite prosecco. Enjoy on its own or create gorgeous mocktails.

Made in exactly the same way as regular wine, but with the alcohol gently removed at the end - the light and fresh Eisberg Sparkling Blanc is only 31 calories per 125ml glass and the fruity Rosé is just 33 calories, which means a save of over 300 calories per bottle.

And if you’re entertaining, it’ll mean avoiding that morning-after feeling, whilst also having something available for designated drivers or expectant mums.

A little note from us:

As always, we at Good Homes do enjoy a glass of fizz occasionally and advocate drinking responsibly.
