Your choice of flooring sets the tone for the room and ensures you’ve got a good base to build your design scheme on. Yes, you could keep it classic for a floor that works for every future decorating idea you think of, but we’re loving statement flooring ideas at the moment.

So why not live for today and give your room some Insta-impact by creating one of these amazing feature floors, just by laying out your materials in a creative way?

Stripes

By buying wood flooring from the same range and joining system, but in different colours, you can create a wow-factor design in stripes. The same idea could be used in creating a herringbone flooring, or for creating zoned areas using floorboards.

Both the monochrome stripe floor and this pastel pink design use Painted laminate from Quickstep’s Signature range

Polka dot

While circular tiles aren’t really a thing, we love the look of this polka dot-style design made using Wall and Floor’s Aspect hexagon tile. You could also use a penny mosaic tile, and cut out random tiles from the mesh, replacing with an accent colour for a smaller-scale dot.

Use plain tiles in a complementary colour palette to create a simple check design. Keep it classic or be more experimental - we love this pastel design made using Original Style’s Victorian floor tiles

Colour block

Creating colour blocking is a great way to zone a space on the floor. This bathroom design, featured in Good Home’s March 2020 issue, uses it to divide the bath and shower. You could do this with clean lines, but there’s definitely something charming about the use of this hexagonal tile to create a less-defined split.

Subtle detailing

Creating a feature floor doesn’t have to be a wild design - we love this idea from Topps Tiles to use a flooring tile in a different direction down the centre of this wooden floor to create a rustic detail. Using its Mora oak tiles, we’re getting country farmhouse vibes from this stylish design detail.
