Hosting New Year's Eve doesn't have to be a stressful experience – prepping in advance and making sure you take time to chill out and have fun will ensure that you have an amazing time welcoming in the new decade.

Here are our top tips for creating a hassle-free evening of celebrations.

Create an ambience

The foundation of any good celebration is creating the right ambience. You can do this by putting together a special New Year's Eve playlist and dimming the lights to create an instant party vibe.

Why not pick a theme for your celebrations? Then you can tailor your music and general set up to suit that theme. A 1920s theme, for example, would be a great idea to see in the start of 2020.

Prep a cocktail area

No party is complete without a glamorous cocktail bar area! You don't have to have a cocktail trolley in order to do this, you can simply dress up a sideboard or coffee table appropriately.

We love this set up by George Home – dress your table with quirky gold decorations and matching barware. Don't forget an ice bucket to keep your champagne or Prosecco refreshingly cold!

Party décor

New Year's Eve is the perfect opportunity to go all out with party décor. We're thinking oversized banners, streamers, balloons, honeycomb decorationss – the lot!

Sticking to a colour theme will help your décor look cohesive. You could always reuse your Christmas decorations too. For example, use the garlands or tinsel you used to decorate your tree to decorate your party table.

Easy bakes

Forget putting on a three course meal for your party guests, bake a few festive treats and get stuck in to easy and yummy party food.

If you're wanting to buy your party food rather than make it, Iceland's party food this year is all cooked at the same temperature, which is super handy and will make hosting a lot easier.

Make your guests feel special by creating some personalised decorations, table favours and party gifts. We love the idea of reusing a Christmas bauble as a place setting.

Games galore

Get your guests in the mood to party by playing some fun party games. Of course, there are the classics such as charades and pictionary but you could invest in a few new and exciting games that you and your loved ones have never played before.
