A blank canvas is the starting point for any room. But when brainstorming a gender-neutral kids room, have a neutral colour palette in mind to build on. Not only are neutral colours super calming but they have no preconceived connotations.

Incorporate block colours

Now that you have your neutral background, it’s time to introduce a splash of colour. Go for bold pops of colour rather than more traditional pastel shades. Try a striking teal, warm sunset orange or sunshine yellow.

Inclusive messaging

According to the Pinterest trend report, search around ‘Inclusive Educational Posters’ has increased by 91% since last year. Rather than choosing artwork and homewares that promote stereotypical gender messages, choose interiors that evoke positive thoughts and inclusivity.

A nod to nature

Rather than sticking to more traditional and stereotyped hobbies such as football or fairies, decorate a kids room with educational pointers in mind. Incorporate images that evoke nature or perhaps the alphabet to encourage everyday thinking and learning.
