The main focus of the family's brief was to make space to include a large walk-in shower, complete with a frameless pane of glass. 

Fiona Duke Interiors, who came up with the new bathroom concept, upcycled a retro cabinet into a striking vanity unit, using a bright teal for a pop of colour in the otherwise subtle scheme.

To redesign the layout to fit a larger shower and create a 1920s-inspired theme with a modern twist.

The Details

  • Inspired by Japanese soaking tubs, the water level in the bath is just below shoulder-height, while the cutting edge WC has a variety of features, including an extractor fan and a sleek shower enclosure was added by stealing space from the adjacent landing.
  • The owner also unearthed hidden treasures under the bathroom’s floorboards, which she has framed.

The Details

  • Tanya chose specialist Microcement for the walls and walk-in shower, which features a clever cut-out and a seamless glass shower screen that echo the strong rectangular shapes around the room.
  • All of the taps in Tanya's new bathroom are polished brass, which she bought at Bert & May, and look stunning against the rough and matte textures of the brick and cement.
  • Tanya’s builder created a bespoke shower screen the perfect size for the room. Made of glass, its framed with black steel U-channels to complete the loft-style look.

To transform the spare bedroom in their London home into a main bathroom, combining the original Victorian features with a contemporary, industrial edge.

The Details

  • Extending the en suite into an unused loft area meant there was enough space for a large, walk-in shower enclosure.
  • Elements such as William Morris-inspired wallpaper and a deep, freestanding tub remind Julia of her favourite boutique hotels.

Makeover brief

To extend the original en suite into the loft space, creating a new dressing area. New tiles and sanitaryware, as well as panelling and wallpaper, to be installed.
