Team black, copper and gold accents with statment monochrome pieces and graphic cushions to give a traditional scheme an on-trend edge for the festive period. 

Choose funky baubles and accessories and look for designs with bold stripes, geometric patterns or matt finishes. Go large with oversized decorations and hang giant paper balls and stars from the ceiling as a finishing touch. 

And finally, add the wow-factor with a large starburst mirror above the fireplace, which will look fab all year round.

Mix subtle dove grey and charcoal shades with glittery sequin cushions and soft pom-pom throws for a contemporary update on a festive favourite - it's the perfect scheme to escpase the cold evenings.

Use glittery cushions to update neutral sofas and beds, and cosy throws to add warmth to the scheme. Swap bright lamps for soft candlelight and twinkly fairy lights, and place laterns and votives on your mantelpieces to really bring it to life.

Dress your tree with a mix of gold, white and pale wood decorations such as cut-out snowflakes and stars. Compliment gold decorations with metallic side tables, mirrors or consoles that will work in your home all year round. 

Add glitz to an empty wall with decorative mosaic plaque as it will look particularly sparkly when illuminated by candlelight in the evening.

Take inspiration from a boutique mountain chalet, combine rustic-wood finishes and frosted accessories with faux-fur throws to add a touch of sparkle and make your festive themed living room shine bright!

With a little bit of DIY you can interest to a sideboard by with some simple-yet-glamorous details. For example, spray painting a few toy deer figures gold and pop them under a cloche for an easy festive update.

Remember to hang baubles in a few complementary shades such as bronze and cream on your tree for a modern feel.

To recreate this timeless, traditional Nordic look, use a fun combo of classic red and white embriodered, wooden, felt and tin decorations to pep up a neutral scheme.

Sew a simple runner in a pretty red and white fabric to co-ordinate your coffee table with the rest of your festive decor. Adorn your sofa with embriodered cushions to tie in with the theme.  

Add colour and pattern to white, painted floorboards with traditional flatweave rug in a classic Scandinavian design. And don't forget to fill striped cotton sacks with wrapped gifts and leave besides the fire ready to be discovered on Christmas morning!
