If there’s anyone we trust to dig up the next big thing in interiors, it’s Pinterest. After all, isn’t that where the whole world heads to curate their interiors inspiration?

Well Pinterest has just released its trend report for 2021, and it makes for some interesting reading. Find out what are the hot searches in interiors for 2020 and what will continue on into the New Year.

Neon rooms

Bright, fluorescent neons – not what you might expect for a big interiors trend, however Pinterest has found that searches for ‘Neon Rooms’ have grown by 8 times this year thanks to Gen Z looking for ways to create a colourful home. Think colour-changing LED lighting such as Philips Hue, which you can expect to see more of in 2021.

Japandi

Japan and Scandinavia may be many thousands of miles apart, but they share a common design language which has lead to the creation of the term Japandi. Pared-back minimalism meets natural materials with a focus on craftsmanship. This year, the Pantechnicon opened in London, a concept store dedicated to this cultural fusion, while Pinterest searches for Japandi were up 100%.

Multi-purpose homes

In 2020, our homes did double-duty – becoming workplaces, schools, makeshift hairdressers and more. While many will be keen to get back into the world in 2021, there’s no denying that our mindset on our homes has changed, and going forward, you may see more homes which have multifunctional spaces as to not be caught short again.

Searches for ‘cloffice ideas’, that’s closet offices to you and me, doubled, while home libraries, bookshelf room dividers and gaming rooms were all also on the rise.

Pinterest are calling it – kitchen shelves are the new gallery wall. Searches for beautiful corners such as kitchen floating shelves decor and plate racks in kitchen are all up massively, as are searches for dreamy kitchenware inspiration.
