We sat down with her to find out how she transformed the space in such a short space of time and the inspiration behind her Great Gatsby inspired makeover.

Talk us through the before and after

'I went with a dark charcoal grey colour for the walls, a pink fireplace (yay) and a pink marble effect wallpaper teamed with gold accessories including a brass fronted bar cabinet – I’ve always wanted a bar cabinet! Thanks to the new side cabinet we’ve been able to get a bigger TV, which as sad as it sounds is very exciting! The room now is a lot braver and has more of a wow factor! I’m so happy with it.'

Talk us through the concept featured in your revamped room?

'I’m known for white walls and pastel colours – I’m not particularly adventurous with colours so I’ve challenged myself to push my boundaries and go bold with dark walls and to step away from my usual Scandi-Boho style and add more of an Art Deco feel.'

What design elements have inspired it?

'The Great Gatsby is my favourite film (décor-wise) – I’ve tried to take aspects from that era like the bar cabinet and mixed them in with existing items to create an eclectic, luxe feel.'

What, if anything, did you make yourself?

'Well I can’t take credit myself, but Matt (my other half has built the sideboard cupboards (one of which is secretly a doggy den) and shelves in the alcoves!'

What do you think is important to consider when decorating a room like this room?

'As important as the design and look is to me, with it being the living room ultimately the most important thing is that it feels cosy given that we spend the most amount of time in here. Dark colours, soft textures and a bit of mood lighting can give a room a really cosy feeling.'

What key interiors pieces do you think make the room and where are they from?

'We replaced an old standard radiator with a traditional Colosseum radiator from Soak.com and it’s unbelievable the difference it has made to the the room – plus it gives off so much more heat so I’m made up with that. Then it has to be the sideboard from Maisons Du Monde which we are using as a bar cabinet – it gives some real character to the room with it’s feature brass front.'

What do you think makes a house a home?

'Dogs. And a lot of blush pink.'

What are the main advantages of redecorating a period property over a new build?

'You are much more likely to add value to a period property by renovating it, there isn’t always a great deal you can do to new builds – it’s not as easy to put your own stamp on them.'

What’s your biggest trend prediction for 2018?

'I think we are going to continue to see more and more Art Deco type décor – furniture in particular, rich woods with luxe brass finishing.'

Can you share some of your top decorating tips with us?

'Always use a spirit level. Chalk paint is your best friend when it comes to recycling furniture. Always wash your brushes/rollers after you’ve finished painting – otherwise you will go through hundreds during your lifetime. In dark rooms hang a mirror opposite the window to create more light. Don’t be scared to add a bit of pink or gold.'

What tips would you give to budding interior designers about getting into the industry?

'Take inspiration from everywhere, Pinterest and Instagram are great sources of inspiration and instantly accessible. Take aspects from different styles and create your own style. Don’t be afraid to experiment.'

Why is Revamp Restyle Reveal such a great campaign to get involved in?

'Because the great thing is that anyone can get involved, even if you don’t want to spend a lot, you can completely transform a room with DIY’s and a lick of paint.'
