Fuelled by the trend for open-space living, this Shaker-style kitchen makeover by Harvey Jones is part of a bigger renovation that transformed the ground floor of a 1920s property into an extended space equipped for family life. Spacious, social and versatile, the scheme is filled with light thanks to the addition of a single-storey extension with a vaulted ceiling.

Paying homage

Keeping in with the style of the rest of the property, the homeowners opted for a traditional Shaker-style design painted in contrasting hues. Providing a confident pop of colour, the striking shade of green is perfectly balanced by the white island and pale walls, so as to not feel overbearing.

A sociable space

The homeowners opted for a large island with an overhanging worktop to allow for a seating area big enough for four. The island also has the sink built into it so every work surface in the kitchen is being utilised fora specific task, meaning there is no wasted space. The owners chose a wooden worktop for the island to contrast with the Quartz surfaces of the rest of the kitchen.

Antique mirror splashback

Opening up the room and contributing to the airy appeal of the kitchen, the antique mirror splashback is framed by two shelves displaying a selection of decorative pieces that showcase the homeowner's personality.

Added warmth

The wooden flooring and island worktop bring warmth to an otherwise cool space and add a rustic, industrial twist. The aged bronze tap and bar stools are a subtle refined hint to the industrial theme and provide eye-catching features. Green and white is a cool combination, so with these added elements of warmth, it really makes the kitchen feel homely and the hub of the home.
