Herringbone Kitchens has just announced a collaboration with celebrated interior designer Abigail Ahern - and the first kitchen they've fitted out together? Abigail's own!

The Abigail Ahern x Herringbone Kitchen range is designed to replicate a near-bespoke offering, but on a budget. "It comes in standard sizes, so that you can design the space yourself." explains Herringbone Kitchens’ Director Elly Simmons. "The kitchen will come primed so that you can paint in any colour of your choice, you are in charge of creating your dream kitchen."

And why Abigail Ahern? "I have known Abigail Ahern for over 10 years and took part in her Interior Design Class when I was at university. Her bold style has always been an inspiration and for us she was the perfect partner. She has a bold style that is uniquely hers that is approachable and reflects her personality. She always trusts her gut with design and has fun with it, which is exactly what we encourage our clients to do."

The kitchen range is handmade in Herringbone Kitchens' Canterbury workshop, and customers are welcomed to see the team in action making their kitchen.

We spoke to Abigail about the new kitchen, and her top tips for recreating her signature style.

What was the idea behind the kitchen?

"I wanted a kitchen that seamlessly and beautifully integrated with the rest of my space. I think the trouble with open plan areas is that often times the kitchen stands out like a sore thumb and never really gels and it’s hard to have fridges and extractors and walls of cabinetry and all of that stuff so near to and close to relaxing areas as it feels so disconnected.

This kitchen however totally integrates. I’ve echoed the colour palette, materials and lines in the kitchen with the rest of my space so when you transition through from living to dining to kitchen nothing jars, everything flows."

How did you tackle storage in the design?

"Storage is important but I was determined not to have wall cabinets, I think with open plan areas the more open storage you have the better as the eye is automatically more interested and intrigued. That said I still needed to hide all the ugly stuff like blenders, mixers etc. so more cabinetry on the island and a pantry was my saviour."

How would you describe the signature Abigail Ahern style?

"Eclectic, inventive, ever-captivating."

What's the key to a successful dark interiors scheme?

"Reigning in the colour palette and adding a few more lights."

What's your top tip for styling up a kitchen?

"The silver lining of any kitchen is the details, those 5 minute transformative finishing touches that take the space to another level. Little lamps on islands, plants tumbling over shelves, rugs skimming floors, sparkling chandeliers over islands has taken it to a whole other level."
