If you're hosting a number of get-togethers for family and friends over the holiday season, you'll want to set the perfect Christmassy scene in your home. And seeing as food is an important part of the celebration, your dining table is going to be at the centre of attention.
Good Homes' style editor, Jessica Taverner, reveals her top styling tips to help you create a magical Christmas table setting that will impress your guests.
Use interesting centrepieces

Need an instant wow-factor centrepiece? A wreath is the ideal solution. We’ve used a peacock feather one for a glamorous feel, but frosted eucalyptus would look beautiful in a modern country scheme and alternative designs, such as pom-poms or this peacock bauble from BHS; £4, will set off a modern table.
Get creative with cutlery

Rather than placing cutlery to the side, use them as the final flourish for your place settings. Tie loosely with contrasting ribbon and place slices of agate underneath to surprise and delight your guests. We recommend these gorgeous assorted metallic Christmas ribbons from Paperchase; £5.75.
Fill in the gaps

Invest in a set of oversized decorations this year – but don’t use them for the tree. Glittering feathers and beaded snowflakes make fantastic table adornments and are just the thing to fill any gaps, especially the tricky spaces between place settings. We love this Christmas Boutique gold feather decoration by Sainsburys home; £1.87.
Light up your table

Do not underestimate the humble battery-operated tea-light. They create all the atmosphere of the real thing but with none of the fuss or hazards, especially if young children or flammable table decorations are nearby. Choose marble votives – they're not only a gorgeous style statement, but they help camouflage the tea-light’s white plastic base. We're lusting after this marble effect tea light holder from BHS; £6.
